Welsh players come from all kinds of backgrounds, probably due to the immigration from other parts of the UK (yes, immigration to Wales!) when the coal industry was booming. Obviously they played rugby in their recreation time, and it was taught across all schools. In England the majority of the team seem to be posh twats. Will Carling being the best/worst example of this.
And there was no call for professionalism back then so nobody cared about rugby league here, and thus not many players were lost to rugby league until the 80s when a load of national team players switched to rugby league and left the union team in it's worst ever position.
Not sure how it works in Scotland (can you be posh and Scottish?) or France. I'd imagine it's a minority sport in Scotland and think it is very popular in some regions of France but not at all popular in other parts. Are the Ireland players like the English ones then?
