Not sure which prize money situation is more of a joke,

darts where winning the top event is worth more than 4 times winning the next largest,

or snooker where winning some tinpot saudi oil money jolly earns as much as the world championship.

No Littler involved

Littler effect has drove the viewing figures from around 75,000 in 2023 to 250,000 in 2024 & 2025.

Sure, but doesnt make it less of a joke when one tournament decides the rankings.

Back when the PT was 12K and the WC 500K you had to win 42 PT to match it. Now 67.
Total of the other 7 ranking majors is just 75K more than winning the WC... Ranking is fucked, but lower end players will also benefit big, so all in all it is good news. They should make it proper ranking points instead of money to get a better ranking system

Snooker made it a points system.... by copying the ranking money 1 to 1

So expect that joke of a "positive change" coming sooner or later.

Almost as if the biggest tournament in the “sport” should be more much more financially lucrative than the tournaments that they can’t even sell all the tickets for.

The counterargument to this- in order to invest in the WGP to restore its status, move it the fuck away from Leicester and then up the prize money once a good sell out venue can be found.

They might be biding their time until there's demand for a week long event in Belgium and then move it there

By the looks of it it will be a straight knock out, that will be some boring matches. 96 had the flaw that when a top 32 player announced he was not playing after the draw the kind-of-number-97 would move to his spot and thus the round 2. But dont think it happened often
The other weakness they might see with the 64 + 32 is that a warmed-up (normally) Pro Tour player plays a cold seed. Lots of upsets last year.
Flat 128 is likely lead to more crap games in the 1st round, but could help TV for the rest of the tournament.

I suspect the top 16 will get auto invites regardless of how they do and be seeded in the groups.
They could expand the "winners/finalists" pool to 40:

Premier Events
Youth/CT/DT/Women/NA/Asia
ET winners
PC winners
ET finalists
PC finalists
OOM
---
8 qualifiers

That'd pretty much cover the top 16 anyway.

15k for being at the Worlds is astounding to me. That's TWICE the previous minimum.
