England Darts has been going though a court case for 10 months, it has cost the company £6,100 to defend the decision they took to refuse an entry at the England Open 2024 from a person who contrary to ticking our zero tolerance chose to abuse Deta Hedman our Ladies International captain, and Youth ambassador on social media.
Sadly the person concerned and the solicitor who represented that person, tried to muddy the original reason we refused the entry to a situation of Transgender, which it never was.
In fact we had to send to the court any reference in emails, documentation on Transgender affect in Womens darts, which amounted to 62 pages of information, we still didn’t understand what that had to do with the original decision of abuse, but we complied with the court.

We were awarded costs, to which this person has no means of meeting the costs the court awarded to us. This has now impacted on our ability to send the Youth to the Europe Cup in Holland in July.
Although my personal views and that of England Darts was that Women’s competition should be for biological women, nevertheless the current WDF rules at the time of the events we applied ranking points for in 2024 allowed Transgender competitors to compete in our events, which included the England Open in Devon, if we could be awarded WDF Ranking points.
England Darts over a long period of time, through the correct channels attempted to get support from the other member countries of the WDF to secure women’s darts for biological women, at the WDF conferences.

I understand that different countries have different rules in law, and it would be difficult to make an across the board definitive decision, however the remit England Darts submitted to the WDF Annual conference, which was seconded by Wales and Scotland put in was passed to protect Women darts players.
It has been a long process and whilst 99% of people think it is a simple question, as I do, the law works in mysterious ways sometimes, however sense has prevailed and women’s rights have now been defined for their protection under the law, today in the high court in London.

We have had to endure a lot of negative social media posts against our views, but all along we maintained we have no issue with how any person wants to live their lives, just think that people who identify as transgender and are biological males should not be playing in women’s sport including darts.

If the WDF or anyone else wants to open up competition designed for transgender people they are quite at liberty to do so, we would have no objection at all.
I would like to thank Deta and Paul James , to thank Linda Duffy for all the work and support we have received in our attempts to protect biological women. Also my long suffering wife Lesley for her support during this very drawn out situation, and how it affected myself.

Perhaps now others can clear up any confusion on who is eligible to compete in women’s sport, but that is up to them, we can put our hands on our hearts in how we approached this issue within the confines of the rules we had to abide by.

"Just to clarify the actual facts is the court has awarded costs to England Darts from the action taken against them, the court was told by Lewis's solicitor that the person concerned has no means of paying this court judgement to England.
From our solicitor:
Just to be clear: the costs that Lewis has been ordered to pay is already a judgment debt. Just like any other CCJ, it will be registered against her name and affect her credit rating without you having to take any further steps.
The only decision you have to make is whether you want to try to enforce the debt.
So Lewis owes England Darts and we will enforce this, through the courts."

Ah England Darts won. My impression was the ED lost because of the 6100 and that Deta was worried about the youth missing out, but thats just the cost they incurred. Well thats a bit of good news.

Still a bit vague if ED still has to allow trans because of the WDF. The British trans ruling probably doesnt prohibits transmen from participating in womens sports, but just that they arent discriminated against if they arent allowed. WDF probably can still force ED to allow it. Hopefully they will change it for good at the general meeting at the World Cup.
