A Chat with Fallon Sherrock

Following tournament wins in the past few weeks, notably the British Classic, BDO’s Interim Press Officer, Gareth Thomas, chatted to 19 year old darts star Fallon Sherrock about her career so far, recent successes and what the future holds. Here's what she had to say:

So Fallon, it’s been a successful few weeks for you, tell us about how its gone?

Yes I'm really happy with my performance over the last few weeks I've picked up a lot of points, I'm so proud of myself and hope to carry my form into the next few competitions leading to lakeside.

These aren’t your only tournament wins though, what else have you achieved in your short career so far?

I have had a really successful 2 years - I won: The, Girls WDF World Cup 2011, Girls Winmau World Masters 2012, Jersey Open 2012, Sittingbourne Open 2013, England National Singles 2013 and the British Classic 2013. I have also been a finalist at the Northern Ireland Open, Scottish Open and Welsh Classic so I am really pleased with the way my darts are progressing.

My greatest darts moment is winning against a friend in his garage with a bullseye, what would yours be?

My greatest darts moment to date is winning the girls youth World Cup as it give me the confidence to go out and achieve more in my up coming career.

What got you into darts in the first place, how long have you been playing?

I've been playing darts a little under 3 years, I got into darts because all my family play including my twin sister Felicia who is also a keen and talented darts player.

Your county Buckinghamshire missed out on promotion this year but you did come 2nd in the Women’s A dynamic average table, do you have high hopes for the new county season?

Yes, Buckinghamshire is like one big family and I have great support from all officials and players - they really want me to do well. Our Ladies team are amazing, and it is a pleasure for me to play with them. We have strengthened our Mens team with players returning to us, so hopefully we will be able to secure promotion this year.

So who is your favourite BDO player?

My favourite BDO player is the talented Deta Hedman, who I'm lucky enough to play pairs with her on the BDO circuit.

And what song do you walk out too?

Well my old walk on song was 'Last Friday Night' - Katy Perry... But I'm currently looking for a new walk on song,

You’re 19 years old and you say darts is your hobby what else do you do?

Well most my free time is playing and practicing playing darts, I also go to college and i’m study hairdressing and have recently passed my course.

Finally, What’s the dream for you Fallon?

My dream is to be woman's world champion within the next 3 years.

Thanks Fallon, all the very best!

PDC Launch Three New Events
https://www.pdc.tv/news/pdc-launch-three-new-events
16th February 2010

Following the decision, by a majority vote, of the BDO County Associations not to agree to discuss the detail of the PDC's offer to acquire the British Darts Organisation nor to grant the PDC access to its books of accounts in order for normal due diligence to be carried out the Board of the PDC can issue the following statement:

The Board of the PDC find the decision of the BDO County Associations not to engage in discussions as to how to distribute the PDC's proposed cash injection of £2m into amateur darts contrary to the best interests of the membership they represent.

Nevertheless the PDC Board has accepted this decision and intends to move on with its plans for the expansion of the professional game of darts offering all players the opportunity to compete with the elite of world darts for prize money at a level never before experienced.

---

Following these announcements, PDC Chairman Barry Hearn commented:

"The aim of our offer to the BDO was to unify the sport of darts and this remains our long-term objective despite the decision by the BDO County Associations.

"To turn down £2m without even sitting down with us to discuss the details of our offer is, in my opinion unbelievable, when you consider the poor state of health financially of the amateur game.I would like to congratulate the eight counties who voted to at least consider the offer in detail by way of meeting - they have done their membership and the sport of darts proud and can hold their heads high and we are delighted to offer each of those counties one entrant into the 2010 PDC UK Open. Now we move forward with the beginning of a new era for darts.

"The PDC Unicorn Women's World Championship carries prize money of £30,000 plus £10,000 of sponsorship, compared with the Lakeside version of just £12,000 total prize fund. The PDC Unicorn Under-21 World Championship carries prize money of £30,000 plus £10,000 of sponsorship, compared with the BDO Teenage Championships prize fund of £2,000 and the World Youth Masters that carries no prize money at all.

"The PDC World Cup carries prize money of £150,000 compared with the WDF version which carries no prize money at all.

"The PDC ProTour in 2011 will see over 35 events with prize money of at least £35,000 with around a dozen weekends offering £70,000-plus in prize money - truly the basis for a proper professional tour.

"We shall continue to drive this great sport forward undismayed by the intransigencies of the amateur game which is built on inept financial management, self interest and mediocrity.

"The future is exciting for all players and I hope today's announcements show that the PDC is a vibrant, efficient and effective body well qualified to take the sport of darts to an entirely new level."

BDO's problem was lakeside. They wanted to keep lakeside and it wasn't what Hearn wanted

This was interesting - 'subjective' - from the above article:

As tournaments will be comprised of 128 players only, the remaining eight places, plus any that have been created by a deficit in entries, will be filled by players from Friday night qualifying competitions held before PDC ProTour events. These qualifying competitions will only be open to players who have competed in the January 2011 Q School.

= the original plan was to have 120 tour card holders, and a Friday night qualifier to fill up the field to 128.

Speedy Find Manchester Amateur Qualifiers

THE second Speedy Qualifier for the Speedy Services UK Open has seen eight further amateurs win places in June's event, including Paul Whitworth, Stephen Bunting and Tony Martin.

The free-to-enter Speedy Qualifiers began on Monday at Hampden Park in Scotland, where the first eight amateur qualifiers for June's UK Open Televised Finals in Bolton were discovered, before heading on to Old Trafford.

Over 200 players took part in the Manchester event, which saw them initially throw 15 darts in a bid to score one of the highest 16 cumulative totals, with those 16 players then playing off over the best of three legs to win a place in Bolton.

Stephen Bunting, a qualifier for last year's UK Open and the reigning World Masters champion, scored a massive 660 from his 15 darts - over 100 more than his nearest rival, Michael Bushby - before defeating Anthony Cooper to seal his Reebok Stadium return.

Bushby, who competed on the PDC Unicorn Youth Tour in 2011, defeated Lee Holden in their play-off, with Mark McGeeney overcoming Stuart Stubbs and Daz Twist seeing off David O'Brien.

Tony Martin, another former UK Open qualifier and the husband of Anastasia Dobromyslova, scored the fifth highest total of 498 before overcoming Callum Loose to seal his place in the tournament.

Salford publican Paul Whitworth, who has a wealth of UK Open experience, defeated Sean Miles to win his spot, with Nigel Daniels and Stuart Lowe claiming the other two places with wins over Nathan Aspinall and Anthony Urmston-Toft respectively.

Former Speedy Services UK Open semi-finalist Mark Webster was on hand at Old Trafford to meet the qualifiers and hand out tips and advice to budding stars of the future.

The remaining two Speedy Qualifiers will be held at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall next Monday and at London's Alexandra Palace next Wednesday. Entries have now closed for those events.

A bloke I knew in 2007 used to tell me about that forum.

I assume the user Jason Clark was the PDC player of the same name?
