+1

I swear I once heard Lawler say that Kaufman also didn't inform his family that the feud was staged.
Kaufman was a great comedian.
Died way too young (unlike Robert Fico, I might add).

Lawler was gold, played the part perfectly.
Agreed on both accounts.

In Lawler's book it was revealed that after Kaufman died it was found that he had never cashed the cheques he received for doing the pro wrestling stuff. He just did it because he loved it.

Just happy to be part of the mad world of professional wrestling, hopefully the money has been given to charity.

As a 9 year i loved his debut at badd blood 97.Even though an Indian fella the year above me spoilt the ending in the playground before I could get home and watch it on glorious VHS.

Wasn’t watching when this happened
Couldn’t believe it was actually a thing when I eventually heard about it

He’s one of my mates ultimate favourite

Either way, he’s definitely up there with the top “big guys”

In term of fame certainly, but he was a very ordinary in-ring performer and I am not at all interested in re-visiting the storylines he was involved in.

I have a mate who loves him too funnily enough.

Lucky you.

From memory, RAW was the shits around that period.

As much as I consider Michaels to be overrated, in the ring and especially as an all-rounder, the original cell match was superb.

I watched it back recently and it has aged well.

He was a good lad, just very chatty and couldn't help himself talking about it, i did the right thing and forgave him.

Their WM25 bout is a bit overrated imo.

I can't remember their WM26 bout.

Not as good as 25 and with a lot of stalling and more finisher kick outs, bit of a chore to get through.

A theory I have read is that Noble, who laid out the WM25 bout and probably the WM26 bout too, took inspiration from Pro Wrestling Noah. Hence the amount of laying around between big moves and finisher kick outs.

Funnily enough I found the finisher kick outs for the WM25 bout quite predictable, and I am not a fan of Michaels' melodrama routine (OTT mannerisms, hand starting, etc). Hence why I don't rate that bout as highly as most.

I also for not one second thought Michaels would win and that was watching it live. Why would he?, it's even worse on rewatches.

The whole kicking out of finishers is old now, wwe do it for the big matches and it's a bit annoying but aew do it on midcard matches on tv with no heat, kicking out of piledrivers on the steps etc, love my son but dread when he gets me to watch bits of dynamite every week that he enjoyed.

Bret vs Shawn from wm12 is a match I have fond memories of as a child, loved both, especially bret but i really can't watch the entire match anymore, far too slow for as long as it is.

Aye, the Ironman bout was a huge let-down given who was involved.

Bret had great bouts with Nash and Bulldog a few months earlier, while Michaels had worked brilliantly with Owen Hart the previous month. All three are far more enjoyable bouts.
