It's a mystery why an event for winners ignores winners

IIRC Porter stated years ago that the floor qualifiers exist to give TC holders more opportunities to qualify for TV events. In turn, giving the TC more value.

Of course, I don't think that approach is appropriate for a Grand Slam event that is meant to showcase PDC event winners over the full year.

Kyle dying was unexpected, Toon already had one foot in the grave. So not really comparable.

Not really. Toon was having health problems the last 5 years or so.

Grand Prix would be a better choice for this. Also because there is more potential for a first round upset.

I'm cool with a floor qualifier to fill up the numbers if necessary (which it would have been in every other year apart from last year and 2019 when every man and his dog won a PDC event), but 8 floor warriors is insane, a tour card has been steadily increasing in value that I don't think it's necessary

Remarkably in 2019 4 of those players were Euro Tour winners, I don't think any other year has seen any ET winners not make it. Perhaps even more remarkable is the list of winners that year, Harry Ward fell off the face of the earth, and last year saw some surprising names too, Jansen of course, but I had long forgotten that Lewis won a ProTour last year

Harry Ward plays in Modus still half decent if he gave it a proper go
