It's not an unfair place, it just should have been said when she won the matchplay not 5 months laterThe Thorn wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 7:34 pmThis really shouldn't be turned into a women vs men issue. Re: Fallon is in the Worlds
From Wikipedia:
The final four qualification places were announced on 19 October, with places being given to the highest ranked Eastern European, Krzysztof Ratajski, the National Darts Federation of Canada number one Jeff Smith, the highest ranked African, Devon Petersen, and the then-undetermined 2017 Development Tour winner, Luke Humphries. The sudden announcement of these places, and the granting of them to Ratajski, who had declined an invitation to the rival 2018 BDO World Darts Championship before failing to qualify through the 2017 PDC Pro Tour Order of Merit; and Jeff Smith, who had failed to qualify for the BDO World Darts Championship and not played a single PDC event in the previous year, were criticized by some, with ITV4 pundit and tour card holder Paul Nicholson saying he had written to the Professional Darts Players Association to seek clarification over the placings.
To be fair, when Jeff Smith is the player that arguably performed the least in the PDC of those four - being a BDO Worlds runner-up - this didn't turn out so horrible.
I can't imagine Fallon getting anywhere near Jeff Smith's level of play, on consistency alone.

It happened in 2017 which obviously effected the 2018 World Champs

It should have been announced before a dart was thrown in the event. Which is why it's unfair. Players didn't know what they were playing forDfc180 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 7:52 pmIt's not an unfair place, it just should have been said when she won the matchplay not 5 months laterThe Thorn wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 7:34 pmThis really shouldn't be turned into a women vs men issue. Re: Fallon is in the Worlds
It's Eddie Hearn. He isn't good at PR and self awareness. This is a guy who wanted Conor Benn to fight a severely weight drained Chris Eubank Jr. after Benn had tested positive for a banned fertility drug, and threatened to sue the BBBoC when they refused to sanction the fight. Eddie's desperation for the fight money was like a heroin addict desperate for their next fix. It was embarrassing.
Regarding Fallon Sherrock, I was actually a bit surprised that they didn't give the Women's World Matchplay winner a World Championship spot anyway. Fallon will probably get more hate now because of how badly the PR with this has been handled.

Re: Fallon is in the Worlds
I'm losing the concept of 128 tour card holders in the PDC, but I must say what a Great job the PDPA do for their members.
Bobbi said on twitter what most are thinking. Being glued to Beau's side she has first hand insight to what goes on with the women and says there's no hate from them. Though i'm surprised she's not been reigned in and told to not comment on Fallon's inclusion. Male dart players on the other hand are shit scared to speak out. Then again they are represented by a silent association that Mardle thought he could run and do a better job. Imagine him at the helm right now? Not only a pdc yes man but a snidey grass.

The mother of the whippersnapper has waded in. I respect her opinion, not only as a woman but as a dart player (she hit a 180 in a recent league match so not that bad) and avid supporter of the game/all codes. She said "Fallon favouritism is getting ridiculous now, a fucking piss take" and she is impartial.

Re: Fallon is in the Worlds
Tbf, when Devon got invited, that was at least partially the South African organisers' fault for being completely incompetent. I don't think anyone would have had an issue with the Women's Matchplay being given a spot at Ally Pally at the start of the year, but to shoehorn it in now leaves a sour taste, and the PDC know that or else they wouldn't have done it on the downlow lolThe Thorn wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 7:34 pmThis really shouldn't be turned into a women vs men issue. I do wonder if Greaves would have got the nod had Sherrock finished 2nd on the Women's Series OoM? Greaves certainly didn't play like she knew her place was assured in that final event!

Re: Fallon is in the Worlds
Ratajski would have got in under the old system where the next 4 best Europeans on the ProTour got in, so was unlucky in that regard, but it was arbitrary how he ended up getting the spot (especially as he turned up to the regional qualifier and lost). Smith was probably the worst one, if I remember correctly he topped a local Canadian ranking list from the year before or something, though he did beat Humphries (who as the winner of the Development Tour got an invite) in the prelim round quite convincinglyThe Thorn wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 10:39 pmFair, what about Ratty and Jeff Smith?thegentle wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 10:25 pmTbf, when Devon got invited, that was at least partially the South African organisers' fault for being completely incompetent. Because they expected her to get in via the women’s series but she didn’t. So they have gerrymandered the rules. It stinks to high heaven.Dfc180 wrote:It's not an unfair place, it just should have been said when she won the matchplay not 5 months laterThe Thorn wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 7:34 pmThis really shouldn't be turned into a women vs men issue. Hope the crowd boo her and she goes out first round. Sky have got to be the driving force behind this decision
