He was doing Lifeboat inspections at the time with his 1st Officer, the excuse seems highly probable. If more ships captains inspected their safety gear there would be fewer deaths at sea. I can't recall every seeing a the captain of a Boeing 747 inspect the parachutes....oh that's right, it's crash & burn, but they give you a lifejacket to break the fall before you're burnt to death should you survive the sudden impact.gazman wrote:I know its not something to laugh about, but that excuse still makes me smile.
