Where is wade in the all time list?

Post by Malanax » Sun Oct 25, 2020 5:17 pm

Started by nico on commentary this afternoon, carried on the euro tour thread, discussion about where wade ranks in the all time list and is a world title absolutely essential to be ranked in the top 10? If it is who are your 10 world champions keeping him out the top 10?

If he won the world's this year would he become top 10?

Just outside the top 10 I suspect. Taylor, MVG, Bristow, Lowe, Wilson, RvB, Part, Priestley, Lewis and Gando are ahead. Possibly 1 or 2 more I forgot. But close to the top 10 surely.

And I think if he won the Worlds he would replace Lewis
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

For me no doubt about the top 3

Taylor, MVG and Bristow.

Then probably

Lowe,Part,Gando and RVB

Then mot much between

Jocky, Bob Anderson, Lewis, Wright and Priestley

Then

Wade the fact he hasn't even been to a World Final pulls him down

Wade needs to win the WC.
Then he's easily in the top 10.

11-15, great player who has had a really good career, should have won more though but he is mental. Done well with women as well, banged some really good ones.

+1.

He's had a better PDC career than Headshaker imo.

Granted, Headshaker has that PDC world title on his resume. But Wade has won the Matchplay and the Grand Prix twice.

Wade also won the UK Open twice, whereas Headshaker only won it once.

I think he is just inside the top 10 at the very worst just outside. I know people are using worlds as the main barometer which is fair enough but his longevity and numerous big wins should count for something. There are more majors nowadays but far more world class players. If we go back to the 1980s How many were genuine world class? Bristow, Lowe, Wilson, Anderson, ill put Whitcombe and Deller on the next level.
People mention Bob Anderson. His 3 in a row Masters will surely help his status but he didn't really have the longevity, probably due to his back injury.

For me the battle for top 10 is probably against Lewis and part but suprised to see Wright and even cross mentioned ahead of him, such huge weighting given to one single tournament
