2022 Greatest Show on Earth

Post by thegentle » Sat Jul 24, 2021 11:26 am

Haven't seen a thread on it yet, but the dates for the Worlds have been set, 15th of December to the 3rd of January, in front of a crowd (presumably!)
The state of play on the ProTour and around the world:

Philippine qualifying going on today, up to the semi-finals. Malicdem crashed out early, but Christian (Ian) Perez, Lourence Ilagan and the youngster Paolo Nebrida all through

The opening phase of the Japanese qualification took place online, and there have been some surprises, Asada in particular has really fallen off a cliff

-1 for whoever does qualify (unless it's Foulkes, in which case it's -0.5 as he's 'doing it for GB')

Know nothing of most of them, only Ono who played Taylor at the Worlds once, Shoji, Suzuki Mikuru, Suzuki Toru (who played at the Worlds last year but wasn't up to much), and of course Foulkes. Know absolutely nothing about the runaway leaders, but since they're so far ahead, I presume they have something about them

Foulkes was really good (for being a nobody) to beat slow plodding irrelevant Euro jobber Mike de Decker.

Would like to see Foulkes and Asada obviously but Asada seems really shite these days

The final is a repeat of last year's final, Ilagan vs Nebrida, so therefore those two make up their World Cup team

Ilagan wins 3-1 in sets (best of 7 leg sets curiously enough) to earn a 6th Ally Pally spot
