I think Teds best chance would have been 2001PT13 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 8:59 pm Hankey might have made a success of it had he switched in 2010, instead of leaving it another 2 years. The best time for him to have switched would have been earlier though, perhaps as far back as the Skol Six defections in late 2001, although no 2009 Lakeside had he done that. Switching earlier, when the schedule was less demanding, would have enabled him to slowly adapt, or fall by the wayside.

Re: Darts articles in the Media thread
Without wanting to reopen an old debate Duzza for a short time was certainly a top 5 player. Waites if he had gone earlier would have been top 10 in my opinion. Who knows about top 5 I certainly think Waites could have won more than just his grand slam if he had switched earlier.sennafan24 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 8:44 pmNoppert?HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 8:35 pm From 2009/10 How many BDO players that came through after that would be classed as very good and could ( and have) cut it in the PDC?
Off the top of my head, I can think of
Waites
Bunting
Duzza
Btw, while all of those players certainly belong in the PDC's top 32, none of them were top 5 material.
If Duzza can ( big if) get his game back to the levels of 2019 and first half of 2020 he can easily challenge at the business end of premier events again.

Not long enough to be actually ranked in the top 5 in the world.

You know as well as I do that due to the way the oom works, it’s very hard to do that after 2 years, unless you win the worlds a la Rob Cross. My point was that for maybe around a year, it could be argued that Duzza was one of the top 5 players in the world, the oom won’t show that though.sennafan24 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 9:42 pmExactly.HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 9:08 pm Without wanting to reopen an old debate Duzza for a short time was certainly a top 5 player.

I agree the OOM isn't a perfect indicator.HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 10:01 pm You know as well as I do that due to the way the oom works, it’s very hard to do that after 2 years, unless you win the worlds a la Rob Cross. Duzza had some good runs in PDC TV majors in 2019 and 2020, making semi-finals and quarter-finals, but he never reached a final or let alone won one. My thoughts on the PL he won are well-known.
You could perhaps make an argument that he was a top 5 player if you just count events in 2020. But that's as far as I am going to bend.
Edit: MVG, Price, Wright and Dimi all achieved more than him in 2020. Thus, if he was in the top 5 in 2020, he would have been 5th.

Re: Darts articles in the Media thread
I think the 'top 5 in the world' thing should only be talked about on a minimum of a 2 year period of form rather than just an unreal spell. Durrant didn't stay at the top long enough to earn that right
Clayton was on fire since the World Cup win and there were people on twitter saying after the Masters win that he's the best player in world darts atm. He's backed it up with the Premier League win but I still wouldn't call him a top 5 player until we see where he is in 2 years time from the World Cup 2020 when his form really took off

Re: Darts articles in the Media thread
The current ranking system isn't reliable anyway, not with it entirely based on prize money while the prize money gap between the World Championship and other big major tournaments grows every year.

Re: Darts articles in the Media thread
Duzza's notable PDC achievements:
PL Winner.
4 TV Semi-finals.
2 TV Quarter-finals.
Ranked 13th after 2 full years on the PDC circuit. Although he would have been 10th had his prize money for the 2019 GSOD counted.
So yeah, he was clearly a world class player, just not as good as Oche, HJ, Thorn and the like make out.

He was probably playing close to the top 5 for around 6 months....

I feel like we need another retarded poll to discover what level Glenda was playing at when he was at his peak.
Boring Brendas number one and (almost) only fan.
Smithys number one and (definitely not) only hater.

We don’t, but who am I to argue. Polls make the world TDF go round, or something.
