Cheers some reading for later. Incredibly low numbers, yet not all that surprising. I wonder how many Lakeside qualifiers manage to break even on the road to qualifying? And it's not as though there's anything like a minimum 10k pot of gold at the end of that road. No wonder hardly anyone is bothering.

It doesn't help that most payouts in BDO/WDF-ranked events are so top-heavy...there's decent money to be made if you're regularly getting to semifinals and beyond, but if you're a lesser player who has to rely on QF / R16 / R32 results for his Lakeside campaign, the money is just terrible. I suppose it's highly motivating in a way to know that you have to qualify for the Lakeside and its £3,250 first-round cheque to make your season make any financial sense at all, but...
