It is a terrible title. Still not sure what it's even referring to.

Is that something about Worzel Gummidge, Jack? I'd forgotten about this thread... oops.

4. The Invasion
Troughton back on Earth. The story that well established UNIT, which would become a key part of the show under Pertwee's Doctor. Arguably the best villain in the show's history in Tobias Vaughn, an amazingly smarmy individual playing cyber collaborator with sickening glee. Several cracking scenes between him and the Doctor where Troughton is buzzing to have been given some acting to do for a change. Some scenes of surprisingly alarming horror, including the one where a ranting Vaughn dares his imprisoned scientist to shoot him. He does. Iconic shots of cybermen outside St Paul's Cathedral and a few more going mental in the sewers. There's something in the electronics... It's a blast.

It's another which has probably never been repeated on TV. Two of the episodes (which have since been animated) are not in the archive.

3. The Daleks
This is the reason why anyone has even heard of Doctor Who. Television history. Hartnell's Doctor pretends to need supplies for the ship as an excuse to explore a giant metal city which fascinates him and frightens the others. What they find down there horrifies them. They barely escape alive, and are not too pleased with the Doctor, who then realises that he's left something behind. Back they must go... sickening. Claustrophobic and stressful, come and meet the daleks. The Target novelisation of this story is sublime and the Peter Cushing film adaptation is a laugh.

Well no, but it's nice to see Phillip Madoc and Bernard Cribbins in the other one.

You can have my number 2 later, if you'll pardon the expression.
What series comes next then? What else do we know about?

2. The Three Doctors
You heard a lot about the show's 50th anniversary a few years ago. This serial marked the 10th. Wonderful stuff where the Doctor meets himselves for the first time. Tardis scenes between Pertwee and Trought are amazingly entertaining, with a very ill Hartnell appearing on the monitor to join in the fun by abusing the pair of them into action. The Brigadier is completely bewildered by events and has some very amusing lines. Who cares about the story, something about black holes anti-matter, it's a joy to see everyone together.
