The US house of representatives passed the 13th amendment to the constitution which abolished slavery.

The southern states would then try every trick in the book to disenfranchise black people that they could get away with. Turns out they could get away with quite a lot for quite a while.

The battle of Stalingrad, one of the bloodiest battles in the history of the world, ends with the rout of the axis forces in 1943.

This victory, along with the battle of Kursk in the summer, were the two most major battles that turned the tide in favour of the soviets on the eastern front. The axis powers would never regain the momentum.
