Thoroughly enjoyed this year's Matchplay and congrats to Rob Cross.
The likes of Mardle keeps telling us the standard of darts has moved on every year but frpm what i saw if Phil Taylor had been still playing to the level he had between 2008 and 2014 or even 2017 when he last won it he would have walked to the title.

Strange drama in the final, looked all over at 9-0 fair play to Smith coming back to at least make it respectable good tournament but crappy final!

It's the depth of standard that keeps improving. Even players at the top are less secure in their positions than in the past. But the standard of play at the very top, I'd take many versions of Taylor to be the best. In the past though, there were far less tournaments, far less money, top players not constantly looking over their shoulders to the same extent at other players trying to take their place at the top. In some ways, it was harder in the past as Taylor had to drive up standards of play when nobody else was matching his consistent standard.paolo2144 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2019 10:33 pm Thoroughly enjoyed this year's Matchplay and congrats to Rob Cross.

Smith is a big fat mentally weak lazy bell end who's never done a days work in his life. Same as the rest of the St Helens throwers. All big fatties . Trouble with darts now is , the prize money is so big for quarters, semis, runner up etc, winning isn't necessary. Wright , Gurney, Smith all mentally weak. MVG clearly has issues. Anderson is gliding to retirement, Wade is nuts . They keep mentioning young talent but this tournament was padded out with all the usual froth, King, Beaton, Ian White, Henderson etc. For the first time I'm thinking it's getting a bit boring. Taylor must look at this and cringe.
Anybody any idea why Taylor has never popped up on commentary or Sky ? Not that I want him, just wondering.

He has what plenty of this lot dont have and that is bottle and determination. Theres a touch of Taylor about him, working class lad grabbing his chance.
Big fatty Smith wouldnt know a days work if it bit him.
