Survived a match dart against them and won the tournament

Post by Rogg » Sat Jul 30, 2016 10:04 pm

Self-explanatory really. Not necessarily a match dart survived in the final itself, it could have been in an earlier round.

There are a couple of very high profile ones but what were the others... any TV/streamed events.

I seem to remember Jelle Klaasen surviving match darts against Dennis Harbour in the first round of Lakeside in 2006. Harbour also led 2-0 in sets.

Ken Summers had a match dart to beat Eric Bristow 2-0 in sets in the first round at the 1985 World Championship, narrowly missing the double 16. Ironic really, considering just how good Bristow would later play in the semi finals and final in beating Whitcombe and Lowe.

You can go for the high profile ones as well.

Colin Lloyd missed about 4 match darts against Barney in the 2nd round of the 2007 Worlds. Barney eventually won a sudden death leg to beat him 4-3, and a week or so later was world champion. Lloyd had been 3-0 up.

What might not have been.

7 v Terry Jenkins
4 v Mick McGowan
2 v Peter Manley

Laughable.

13, I believe. Terry Jenkins missed 7 in the first round, Mick McGowan missed 4 in the second round (Last 32), and Peter Manley missed 2 in the quarter finals.

4 darts, yes. If I remember rightly, Lloyd had 1 dart to win 4-1, 1 dart to win 4-2, and 2 darts to win 4-3, and Barney instead won in the sudden death leg. An epic match.

hmm I remember the match - an afternoon game strangely - but I don't think so. Anderson should certainly have beaten him regardless, 3-1 up in a race to 4. A week later, MvG world champ.

Anderson has since referenced that match as the kick up the arse he needed. He was the 18th seed in that tournament ffs, below the likes of Pipe and Dolan. He's not lost a world championship match since.

/Mardle/ It's ludicrous, it really is. Presumably Barney never led until he won.

Using whole tournaments is more interesting.

A few recent things on the Euro Tour to add... Van Gerwen survived 2 match darts against Dyson Parody and went on to win one this year.

Ando had a bullseye missed by Kist against him in the 1st round of the PC a couple years ago when he won it.

Given how important that weekend turned out to be in Anderson's career, that is a belter.
