I can see the PeeDeeCee feeling quite reluctant to let go of the idea when the 2020 PL comes around. I'm probably wrong.

They've basically tested this approach on the World Series for the last few years, first by inviting young players into the Finals tournament and more recently by giving them some guest spots in the regular circuit events. It's not that far-fetched to think they'll bake it into the PL format going forward, too. Might help with the near-permanent problem that the 10th guy in usually isn't a particularly convincing selection anyway.
