Dave Whitcombe and Mike Gregory stand out as the best pre-split players not to be world champion. Bobby George is in there too.

On reflection to the above, we missed Bobby George, while Luke Humphries is swiftly climbing the list.

That won't have changed much either to be honest. Asp would be ahead of him now

Shows some peoples lack of knowledge and ignorance to not have Dave Whitcombe on that list. He won two masters when Bristow was in his pomp and 2 runners up. I would argue only Wade and Harrington and possibly Thornton are better players.

Bristow said that Whitcombe had started out-psyching him before the 1984 World Championship final. Whitcombe would just sit down relaxing while Bristow practiced in the hours before the final. Bristow was expecting Whitcombe to start practicing but Whitcombe continued to sit down and seemed in his own world. Eventually, Whitcombe got up, practiced for 10 minutes and then sat down again. Bristow said he was spooked by it. It was a close match in the early sets, and Bristow won a close set to make 3-1, if I remember right, and from then on Bristow raced away to a 7-1 win.

Not that it matters, but we have a new world #1 in Luke Humphries
Littler in the top 32, Williams' defeat means that the top 8 is set

Curiously Aspinall rises two spots despite losing in his first game, up to #4 which I believe is a new high for him?

Well deserved. Matchplay is one of the hardest tournaments to win. ‘Perceptive’
