The reason for the draws was primarily down to the weather, same for the first round.
A big part was the weather but lets not underplay the ball. There has been enough moaning that it's clear bowlers were not happy with the Kookaburra. It's a bloody hard ball to seam (swing goes earlier as well) add that to slow, dead pitches plus lack of skills and voila. I don't get the moans though - most play enough white ball cricket that they should have move skills, more unusual field placings / captaincy etc - adapt that to the Kook.

With that said, who stands out? Sam Cook - known for being a 78 mph Dukes wonderkid but seems he has skill.

I’m all for trying out new things to find some gems in the county game, but it’s one thing facing the kook in Gloucestershire in April then having it bounce over your head at over 90mph at the WACA.

Rumours of Jimmy Anderson being forced out. They need to give him a goodbye test. He deserves that at least

I'm devastated that a 43 year old Jimmy won't be leading the attack for the next Ashes.

He'll at least be picked for his home Test this summer. But the concept that anyone 'deserves' a farewell Test match is bullshit.

Ian Healy wanted one at home in 1999 when he'd already gone on too long, and the selectors rightly said no and gave a Test debut to Adam Gilchrist.

I agree to an extent. I mean he can’t go on forever, but such is his contribution to English cricket, no one would begrudge him a goodbye test at Old Trafford.
England do need to look to the future and try and find some fast bowling gems.

Didn’t Warner dictate the terms of his retirement though?

Well yes. I never said the Aussie selectors never make mistakes.

He wasn't specifically 'given' a farewell Test, but 5 years in the team after he should have been dropped.
