Euan Murray refuses to play on Sunday.....
even though it's the world cup

Not sure I would do this (well, I refuse to work on a Sunday anyway), but I applaud his decision (avoiding the theological discussions about the Sabbath being on a Saturday)
I think he will suffer consequences though

I don't think he will.
That's his decision, & I think it's to be respected.

I think it would be lunacy to punish a player who the SRU obviously think is one of the best in the country. & the SRU are quite sensible.

Just strikes me as being like most religious people -selective about which bits they follow and which they choose to ignore. All very well quoting deep and meaningful observations from theologians but if you ignore simple, clear instructions from Christ himself, it doesn't mean a lot.The Ginger Ninja wrote:Indeed. Just my observation and not meant to be a flame, Grazer.

Re: Euan Murray refuses to play on Sunday.....
he is a professional sportsman and being that the majority of rugby is on a saturday or sunday, the world cup is an exception, i wouldnt have picked him. yes he is probably the best prop scotland have but its your job you get on with it, he could go church in the morning then play. there will he thousands of serving troops in the armed forces working sundays, do they expect to get it off?
I wished for this, I bitched at that

Re: Euan Murray refuses to play on Sunday.....
Jesus went round doing miracles and work on the sabbath much to the anger of the Pharisees (he also laid into them when the commented that the disciples didn't follow a particular "law") and when he was asked about the law and which commandments are the greatest, he responded with "‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.......and Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37-40) Out of all the commandments of the law, Jesus picked on these 2. Whether I go to church Saturday, Sunday, or a Wednesday lunch time I really don't think matters to God. As a mate of mine has said to me:
.......this can fall into legalism or the belief that our actions win us heaven. It also can lead the unbelieving world to believe that Christianity is about the things you can't do, instead of a life more abundant. (my mate has a way with words)
The apostle Paul had several things to say about it as well.
I never saw an issue with playing darts on a Sunday, it's my way of relaxing and not work. Maybe that needs to change, there's not exactly a passage relating to the playing of darts tournaments. I'll let God guide me as best as I am able to. It is important to a break, have a rest.
Btw - it's not a sin to have a pint, even on a Sunday.
I probably haven't explained that very well but ultimately, being a Christian is not about following rules, regulations and protocol.
