Re: Is Rob Cross the closest thing to an English Michael Van Gerwen
Cross is more comparable to Wade as a player:
- Consistently in the top 10 or thereabouts.
- Capable of incredible comebacks. (see 2014 Masters final)
- Not the most flashy + absence of gimmicks.
A difference is that Wade is probably a little more known for his doubling rather than his scoring. I don't think Cross is especially known for one more than the other.

Welcome young sir. I disagree with the claim that MVG is a good loser, all he does is moan, mind you he still does even if he wins.Heywood wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 8:56 am Further to his recent uptick in performances, the heights he has reached in the game thusfar and of course a smattering of comments from you fine folk on here, a consideration of one Mr Robert 'Waterboy' Cross:
The Case For
Bald
Similar Age
An A Game capable of taking legs/sets off of anyone
An uncanny ability to hang on in games when playing below par (only Wade and MVG himself can lay definitively better claims in my opinion)
Annoying/Endearing ‘Boom’ celebration
Good loser – albeit very much more huggy
The Case Against
His thirst
His posture
His throw
His career
Of course he fucking isn’t you melt
ok thanks
Great player though that's for sure.

I compared Cross to Dobey once. I have nothing else to add.
