UK Open going international?

Not sure where the extra spots would come from, whether they are taken from elsewhere or whether they are additional spots. I'm intrigued, but I'm not sure the UK Open is the event to do this, because who would travel the world and back without the big money prizes you get at the Worlds or even the Grand Slam?

Re: UK Open going international?
It was via Safc in the first place and was discussed a bit in the UK Open thread earlier: viewtopic.php?t=11596&start=640#p1614533
It says it will still be a field of 160 players, so something is being cut, presumably the UK pub aspect. It would become a World Open.

Assuming the prize structure remains the same then I don't think it would be attractive to players from North and South America, Asia etc as they would be guaranteed nothing in prize money and having to fork out a fortune to play in it.
Unless of course they win money from their qualifier to cover costs.

It's always been open to the world really.

It is true, but the amateur qualifiers themselves have never been held outside the UK before. I suppose this is a logical development.

I don't think there is any need for "Overseas" Qualifiiers to be held. Its should be the World Series of Darts finals which should either be expanded or have qualifiers from regional tours

World Series is an exhibition series. It's good for the locals, but it's not going to be taken as seriously.oche balboa wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 1:50 pm I don't think there is any need for "Overseas" Qualifiiers to be held. The UK Open is a proper tournament, and despite the name, the open nature of it would make it most fitting to have global qualifiers. Maybe they can change the name.
The problems with the UK Open is that it's relatively low prize money, and the location is terrible for visiting players. So, I would hope the PDC would offer something to qualifiers to help with expenses.
However, at least in early March the flights shouldn't be too expensive and it's a relatively short tournament so players don't have to kill a lot of time.
The European Tour has HNQs, Nordic and Baltic and Eastern European qualifiers, which gives opportunities for players from a number of other countries that the rest of the world doesn't have.
