The 2004 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships will be screened on BBC-1 and BBC-2 in the UK, and SBS-6 in The Netherlands and greater Europe for nine consecutive days from Saturday, January 3rd to Sunday, January 11th, 2004.



With an available prize fund of £263,000, it is the premier Championship on the darts calendar.

Reedy was a class player back in the day, won a couple of big opens (British Open, European Open). Played for Bedfordshire with him. He's still playing now, hits the odd bit average.

The final between Phil Taylor and Kevin Painter was very long. Taylor trailed 0-2, 1-4 and 3-5, before winning 7-6 in a sudden death leg. It took well over 3 hours as I recall. Phil Taylor was so exhausted that he announced his retirement the next day, which he stuck to for 4 days.

The prospect of Taylor going two years in a row without winning the World Championship was seen as a huge crisis for Taylor if it happened.
