The episode is missing so it's very fortunate that this survives. Hard to imagine how it would have seemed to viewers at the time.

They had both actors lying on the studio floor, their faces being filmed on a camera each.

A vision mixer was used to bleed one image into the other. They have a similar nose which helped to line up the images. Then hope people buy the idea of dissolving the lead actor into a different one or they're fucked.

Someone actually remade the most recent regeneration in that original style.

Look at the passionate defence of a politician: '...one who has has received the Queen's accolade'. An almost holy faith in the country's institutions. Fuck em I think is the current thinking.

Friday 29th October 1993.

Includes letters at the bottom.

Captain Scarlet is set in 2068 apparently. The year Beaton matures?

ITV at 9pm: 'Demob'. Comedy drama with Griff Rhys Jones and Martin Clunes. I didn't recognise Les Dawson in that pic with the cigar. This was his final role before his death in June that year. He was only 62.

Freeview launched on this day in 2002.

The new digital terrestrial television service. The old analogue signal - proper 5-channel council telly - will be switched off completely by October 2012.

Thursday 29th October 1981.

BBC1 at 6.30pm: 'Sink or Swim'. A comedy series starring Peter Davison... hmm. Nope, really.

The TV Times has an intimate feature on Peter Falk. He will be in the film 'Murder By Death' at 7.45pm on ITV Granada.

Its listing above proves that there was no attempt at a hoax. It was all in people's heads. Very interesting.
