Monday 2nd November 1936.

3pm at Alexandra Palace, the world’s first regular high-definition (240-lines) television service began.

There had been experiments for several years but now the BBC has stepped in to get to grips with the concept.

The direct recording does not exist but the proceedings were filmed so I'll try to find that.

Today in 1977: the first episode proper of Citizen Smith

Today in 1997: the first episode of I'm Alan Partridge.

Here is a clip of random continuity between Citizen Smith and 2Point4 Children. Below it, this particular day's Patridge ep.

Hi Randy :)
Did you not know you were meant to create a separate thread saying “8 years on here” before announcing your departure?

Monday 7th November 1988.

Series 8, episode 3 of Never The Twain. It had 11 series, what! 1981-1991.

'Cockney Darts Classic' at 10.35pm. Our beloved 1983 world champion is sniffing about.

Tuesday 21st November 1989.

34 years ago today, television cameras are allowed into the House of Commons for the first time. The Queen's Speech debate is the first event to be broadcast.

Here is that evening's News At Ten where they say about it. Mad to think that the public had never seen Thatcher from the Commons during her first 10 years as PM.
