TV listings from the olden days

On this day in 1964.

The BBC goes on air at 10:45am as 'Watch With Mother' teaches you how to make a paper lantern.

All done by 11.50pm. How's that for you Ginge?

Note the two huge gaps in the late morning and afternoon. Ridiculous.

I was just about to mention it. It goes off air at 1.45pm until Blue Peter at 5.10pm. I didn't know they used to do that.

I do enjoy the oul closedowns though. This is the very last Granada one, as they preview the "new age" of overnight TV. Granada one of the few ITV regions who tossed the National Anthem off (Ulster was another)

ITV Midlands brinngs you Rolf Harris before the football results, a treat. He must be about 100, disgrace.

He had his own TV show at least 6 years before Doctor Who first aired. I hadn't thought of him as being so old.

Aussies won. The tournament is mostly remembered for the farcical end to the Final when the umpires made them play in near darkness.
