near all sports of note have their own european/world events independent of the olympics anyway.
this isnt needed as far as i can see,especially in athletics.

football, and other sports like tennis for example have their own majors.
Atletics on the other hand is the main course of the olympics, the shit sports only a filler,the track and field the main bread and butter of the olympics

Would be more entertaining if they allowed the "pros" to enter as in other sports and had a 100+ country Royal Rumble match.
