Never threw for double 9 I don't think, almost middled double 18 every time, double 16 as well he was quite good on. His scoring was so good I forgot to check his doubles, couldn't believe when the stat came up at 70 odd percent. Never known the like of that performance, it's impossible that he's a flash in the pan, simply too good, too much mental strength as well.Wolflanternbumbag wrote:Was also ruthless on Double 18..

Re: 2018 Greatest Show on Earth
A fitting end to the best debut season in darts history imo. That was TAYLOR-ESQ! Reckon there is a fair chance of him winning a few big comps next year, his switching and bottle is in a different league to most of the other top players
Special mention for that t20,t20,t18,t18,t18,t18,t18,double 16 sequence.

Re: 2018 Greatest Show on Earth
Let's be honest if before the start of tonight's final you would have known Taylor was going to average over 102 hit about a dozen or so 180's and miss a 9 darter by baw hair most people would have thought that Phil would have been picking up world title No17 with that kind of level and in most years it probably would have won him title.
It is a testament to how astonishingly good Rob's performance was that Taylor never had a sniff of a chance

Re: 2018 Greatest Show on Earth
Cross' performance was similar to vintage Taylor. The relentless scoring, the clinical double hitting, the crushing of any hope on the part of the opponent, the endurance levels of keeping up that standard of performance, and most important of all finishing the job off just as clinically as when getting a dominant lead.
Cross' average in the final was 107.67, third in the all-time list behind Taylor's 110.94 in 2009 and van Gerwen's 107.79 in 2017. In other words, Cross' performance tonight is one of the greatest standard of performance that we have ever seen in a World Championship final. Taylor tonight actually played pretty well, but he made a bad mistake in missing doubles in the fourth leg of the first set, and Cross was away.

I agree that was the only time where i thought taylor might be making a comeback , he had played really well in 4th set which he won 3-0 and in 1st leg of 5th set against the throw missed the 9 darter by a mm and if that had gone in it may have changed things as he was scoring well at that point.
After he lost that leg and next won match was over

Also, when Taylor won the 8th set to reduce Cross' lead to 6-2, I was thinking "win the next set against the throw and put more pressure on, and who knows", but Cross was clinical in the 9th set, especially the last few darts he used to win the match with all the big trebles and the 140 checkout.paolo2144 wrote:I agree that was the only time where i thought taylor might be making a comeback , he had played really well in 4th set which he won 3-0 and in 1st leg of 5th set against the throw missed the 9 darter by a mm and if that had gone in it may have changed things as he was scoring well at that point.

Yeah the seemingly inevitable Taylor comeback appeared to be on then for sure. I think Taylor would trade a few of his other 9 darters for one at the World Championships for sure, would rather he missed any of the other darts just not the final double, it's the hope that kills you.paolo2144 wrote:I agree that was the only time where i thought taylor might be making a comeback , he had played really well in 4th set which he won 3-0 and in 1st leg of 5th set against the throw missed the 9 darter by a mm and if that had gone in it may have changed things as he was scoring well at that point.

I noticed with Cross, one of my pet hates is players refusing to switch when they should. Cross is a great switcher, in terms of his success hitting the targets, but he is great at shot selection too, very rarely does he stay on a blocked target, he seems to much prefer to switch to an open target as he isn't scared of switching.PT13 wrote:Also, when Taylor won the 8th set to reduce Cross' lead to 6-2, I was thinking "win the next set against the throw and put more pressure on, and who knows", but Cross was clinical in the 9th set, especially the last few darts he used to win the match with all the big trebles and the 140 checkout.paolo2144 wrote:I agree that was the only time where i thought taylor might be making a comeback , he had played really well in 4th set which he won 3-0 and in 1st leg of 5th set against the throw missed the 9 darter by a mm and if that had gone in it may have changed things as he was scoring well at that point.

Agreed, he's a great switcher with the trebles and double 18 is perfect for him with the way his darts lay in the board. The only thing that Cross seems to hate is missing double 16 on the outside, which tends to block the target.phil the great wrote:I noticed with Cross, one of my pet hates is players refusing to switch when they should. I take it that you only mean PDC World Championship finals? If not, then Ted Hankey's 170 in 2000.Rogg wrote:What's the highest checkout to win a world final?

Reminded me of Taylor v part in 2001.phil the great wrote:Never threw for double 9 I don't think, almost middled double 18 every time, double 16 as well he was quite good on.
