Not many do. Every so often a few manage to burst through while the majority of new tour card holders get eaten by the sharks. Off the top of my head some who kicked down the doors and excelled:

Guilding
Gezzy
Scott Williams
Littler

Digging a bit deeper:
Aspinall
Humphries
Dolan warrants a shout
Rock
van Veen

From yesteryear the one that sticks out is Colin Lloyd breaking through, having a favourable draw and Winning the Matchplay. Peter Manley from newsagent owner, rising to the top.

Who else won a tour card and excelled. Any glaring omissions?
I just remembered one and what a joy seeing him beat Goblin in the Matchplay.

Also, even if the attendance numbers don't change drastically, you would still assume the players with full time jobs are having to make extra sacrifices to attend the events. Once again benefitting the top 32 (and others) who are able to make a living out of full time darts.
