Appears Broad was dropped to accommodate a spinner on a hunch. Forget the quicks who graced that pitch over the years. Then it's unfair to pin the blame on anyone but the top order who dismally failed.

I'd add that Root is never a captain
When you actually feel anger over a place like this it's time to get a life

Ashes tests could be over within 3 days with these poor batting lineups on both sides. Might as well play T20 clown cricket to decide the Ashes.

That's the way it's going, it'll happen eventually, you only have to look at how the ICC and ECB etc are trying to ''grow'' the game to realise it.
More and more emphasis on very short format matches at the expense of proper cricket.

5th day of tests, unless it rains is pretty much redundant.

It's a ridiculous thing to say but he is telling the truth.
They either win easy or lose badly.
No middle ground.

That's true..we don't win by grafting it out anymore..
That style of player is gone from our game..
Agnew points out in the BBC article that being positive is similar to being reckless in test cricket..
Pujara scored three centuries for india against the Aussies and faced over 1200 deliveries in the process...
We just don't have that sort of test player anymore..
However, the manner of the collapse against the Windies was shocking when you look at the quality of the bowlers

Its become little more than an extended version of the 50 over game in large part.
The short format may be swelling the coffers but it's killing test cricket as a format.
You only have to look at root or moeens 2nd innings dismissals.
All that said, it's not that some of the 4 day tests aren't entertaining.
It's just not test cricket as I know it.

How does the review system work exactly?
Plum in front, tracking shows it hitting leg....
Not out?

If the ball is clipping outside edge or tip of stump it stays with umpire's call which I never really understood.
It is either hitting or missing surely
