Not really. Is every golf and tennis event on telly a "major"? No, they have a clearly defined set. No different in darts (although I admit they arent defined in quite the same way and it leads to pointless geeky arguments on forums)

I don’t see why it isn’t, normally there’s 13 tournaments worth of qualifying for it, so other than this year it’s not easy to qualify for especially if you’re unseeded

Based on that alone I’d say it should warrant being considered a major, it can still be held on a lesser pedestal than the Matchplay and Grand Prix whilst still being considered as a major imo

It is the finals of a tour which has its own OOM much like the players championship which is also a major. Admittedly it's not one of the big ones but it's a major championship
