The Ellery Queen Mysteries did it too, a 70s murder mystery series. Maybe it was a kind of showreel to excite people with a glimpse of an actor they liked. It's storytelling death for the rest of us.

I'm not sure. I think he's on the way to that scene where he's bugging that receptionist lady for a print out and she hates him. Not sure what ep that is though, if I've even got the right one.
