Ones that immediately come to mind:
Bristow in 1985
Wilson in 1989
Priestley in 1991
Taylor in 1992
Barneveld in 1999 and 2007
Cross in 2018
Humphries 2024
Painter, when it was 6-6 in sets and Painter 4-3 up in the legs in the 2004 World Championship final had 162 with Taylor on 74, and Painter hit treble 20, single 20 and bullseye to leave 32. So Painter was 1 dart away from being world champion, but he never got the shot at it, as Taylor took out 74 in two darts with treble 14, double 16.
Durrant in 2017 & 2018
Kist in 2012
I think Warren in 2020 as well against Justin Thompson

Wadey missing d18 against obese greasy lewis will haunt me forever unless wadey finally wins a world title. I'll be able to laugh about the lewis game if that unlikely event ever happens.

Wade would have won the match 6-2 had he taken that match dart, with Hamilton waiting in the final.

Is anyone who's left living on the jammy list for the 2024 UK Open?

Nope. Lukeman and Heta survived last leg deciders but not match darts.
Heta very notably had great comebacks against both Aspinall and Van Veen.
