This had a tournament average of around 98 last year if memory serves.

And it will be so much better this year already because of the new faces and since its not just barney and Anderson that can defeat MvG anymore.

Oche will be all over Twitter defending the newbies as they've never played this event before

First round already has 4 cracking matches imo. The others will be more one sided but still good to watch. Bring it on!

£200,000 is a joke comparing to £2,500,000.
But on the other hand quarter-finalists get almost as much as proper darts women's world champion so it must be loads of money.

Not a ranking tournament, so doubt anyone except the players cares what the prize money is.

Absolutely meaningless tournament in the present format. Uncle Barry tried to make it like the snooker Masters but failed miserably. Apart from Merv's collapse against Wade I can't remember a single match in the history of the tournament.

Needs a new format, more players, ranking money or all of the above, pronto.

It's very much just another leg play exbo for the top players with zero merit, but as we currently suffer through the "World pro" it's still something to cling too.

Dissagree. It may be the least interesting one of the tournaments but it still delivered some top class action and highly entertaining matches in the past. I remember a mvg v chisnall match going to the wire..

Also, the best thing about it, is simply thats its the first tournament after a month absense. I for one am curious to see where the top players are at now in terms of form. Mvg wants to win every tournament. I think cross is the same.

But you'll see 10 of them a week later, and who gives a stuff about the rest, really. (sorry, Chizzyfan)

The league format of the PL doesn't do much for me, so I'm happy to get the Masters beforehand. Agreed though that the tournament still hasn't developed a real hook.

Yes but it's unofficial non-regulated and played on toy boards so I'm not sure I can tune in.

It's the curtain-raiser to what will be a cracking season. Wouldn't normally care too much about this, but it's a great chance for everyone to get a leg up on the rest and set the tone for the rest of the year, should be quite interesting
