sure gelfand will be happy enough with that in game one.
neither seemed to have much "presence" at the board.
seem to remember kasparov thrusting his pieces out in front of him.
post changers help yourself, its on me.

Nice result for Gelfand and he struck the first blow in that he was the first to pose a tricky question.
There will be many more draws in this I feel. Will be interesting to see what Gelfand open with as White tomorrow.

is the grand master really just the man who can remember the most games? all the permutation to consider is quite remarkable.

I've given up trying to understand how a GM's mind works.Darth Randall wrote:its fascinating stuff.

if it is a case of memorising games and knowing what outcomes have happened from each scenario that comes up it is no surprise that deep blue computer beat even kasparov.
does it take a mistake/lapse to lose a game? majority are drawn?

The loser of a chess game is the one that makes the last mistake.
As far as memorizing games goes, don't be fooled by what Andrew Martin was doing on that video. He was using an online database that shows you identical positions in other games when you set one up on your active board.
I have the same software - so after say eight moves each, I can click a button and a list of all rated games that have ever been played that had that exact position are listed in a new window. I can then play through these and see what each player did.

Game 2 is heading for an unspectacular draw in which Gelfand has been totally unable to surprise Anand. Vishy has only used 20 odd minutes whereas Boris has used over an hour.

Game Three has been a belter so far.
Slight advantage to Anand - can he convert it to a win?

gelfand has gone from looking totally unconcerned flitting in and out to virtually tearing his hair out it seems.
to the uninformed his two rooks look in a strong position.

Gelfand can force a draw but he must completely precise. No room for error now.
Absorbing game today - can't wait for the reports later.

His Rooks are good but the extra pawn for White is critical. Black's King could easily be caught in a mating net too if he's not careful. It's all about being precise now and now forfeiting the advantage afforded to him by move order.

And it appears that Anand's 34th move, Rook to c7 might be wrong and made the draw easier for Gelfand to achieve - analysing now...

One Rook each will be swapped off here and single Rook and pawn endgames are 99% drawn.
A great shame.
