Fair enough. But he won the event and deserves a place at the Slam. I know TC's have loads of chances. But its smacks of unfairness. Have no issue with not getting a World Championship placethegentle wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 11:37 amSuppose, but I guess the point of offering a GSOD place via the North American Championship is to give a chance to a local player, Jeff is an established tour card holder now (though ironically if he loses his tour card as looks likely now, he can enter it next year and qualify for both the Worlds and the Grand Slam)

It is a bit crap he should be in both Slam and Worldsthegentle wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 11:37 amSuppose, but I guess the point of offering a GSOD place via the North American Championship is to give a chance to a local player, Jeff is an established tour card holder now (though ironically if he loses his tour card as looks likely now, he can enter it next year and qualify for both the Worlds and the Grand Slam)
Especially now as he also reached the final of the US Masters PDC are looking like fools

He has plenty of other chances to qualify for both.

Re: 2023 Grand Slam Race
Doesn't need another chance as he already won the qualifying event
If he qualifies via another route the spot should be given to North America

Should have made more of the opportunities he was given as a TC holder though. The Thorn wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 1:09 pmDoesn't need another chance as he already won the qualifying event

It can't be ignored that he's fallen well short of his own hype as a TC holder.

Re: 2023 Grand Slam Race
TCs deserve more opportunities than NonTCs. That's the point of the card.sennafan24 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 1:12 pmShould have made more of the opportunities he was given as a TC holder though. The Thorn wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 1:09 pmDoesn't need another chance as he already won the qualifying event

You could argue it's easier to qualify from a lot of local qualifiers than from the tour
So you end up putting the TCs at disadvantage

Yes and yes.
Hence why your demand that the PDC give the WDF players entries into the GSOD is daft.
That said, I find it difficult to feel bad for Smith for reasons mentioned above.

I always thought people hated tour card holders qualifying for main tour stuff via international events.

Only the Worlds. If the other 6 players get in the gsod with a win, the 2 tour card holders should also get the same reward or not be able to enter the tournament at all

Re: 2023 Grand Slam Race
I wouldn't want to exclude him from the North American Championship. Having card holders in things helps to prove the pathway and shows to other players what's possible.
Yet I don't think he should gain access to a main tour ranking event on the back of it. Maybe he could play at the GSoD but the money doesn't count on his ranking. This is what they did for Duzza that time.

Don't like this Scutt hype.
How about some hype instead for the ladies players, international players, or the WDF superstars?

Got tickets for the 1/4 finals this morning.
Just the 10 minutes for the priority link to buy tickets to appear in my e-mail box after they’d gone on sale.
All hall the PDC!

Who remembers Jeff qualifying for Ally Pally via his NDFC ranking? That was a hoot
