Someone has to go when Jack's mate whose name I've forgotten comes back.

That's him
It's either drop pope, root at 3 with Bairstow and Brook or Bairstow keeps wicket not foakes if they want to keep him
Or he opens again

Be interesting to see his average as an opener

The stats I can find say he has never opened in a test match?

Johnny average for a Wicket keeper batsman isn’t bad. He has had some exceptional years and some decent ones, but his form currently isn’t great.
‘Brooky’ will almost certainly return and it’s a case of do they keep Foakes with the gloves or give them back to YJB.
The batting line up is deeper if YJB is given the nod, but he needs to start scoring.

We have seriously missed ‘Brooky’ this tour as he plays spin as good as anyone currently.

He has only opened for England in white ball cricket.

Mid 30s isn't what you'd expect from something after a 100 tests
That would usually get you dropped

I don’t think it’s that bad for a WK/Batsman. He averages 39.37 in England which will probably help him keep his place for the matches against Sri Lanka and The West Indies.

You'd expect him to average more without but depends on the opposition.

So from what I've read, another blow to HJ's theory that Bazball is the ultimate and unstoppable form of cricket?

Jonny Bairstow is one of only 11 England players to score a test century at the WACA in Perth. One of those 11 managed it twice. Without cheating, do you know who it is.
You have to be able to play the short ball very well to score big at the WACA.

Cheers.

Sounds like England's batting lining up isn't all that.
