22 years ago today the BDO ranked number 2 learnt the truth!

The likes of Duzza and Adams can only dream to reach the heights that Hot Rod reached in that late July week in 1998.

Glorious. Take a look at God in this, gentlemen. Witness.

Harrington has since said that as he was heading down for the walk-on, Dick Allix (I think, PDC co-founder) was looking sick and said to him: "Please win".

There was split shit afoot. Gwynne makes a plea at the end that "This is one game" then Sid mentions "stupid politics".

As good as it gets. God never led until the 125. He had been chasing a wonderfully fluent Lord Ronald for about two hours.

His face had turned grey with determination. It almost killed him. Few players have ever shared his strength and nerve for managing such circumstances.

Lord Ronald was never the same again unfortunately.
A broken man.

Rod was the Mushroom Slayer in the later 90s.

- Beat BDO ranked number 2 Scholten to win the 1997 Austrian Open.

- Beat BDO ranked number 4 Burnett in a 3rd place playoff at the 1997 Matchplay.

- Beat BDO ranked number 2 Baxter to win the final of the 1998 Matchplay.

He'd have spanked future mushroom favourites like Adams and Duzza. No problem.

+1. Tragedy when Lord Ronald thinks it's his throw in leg 36. The 125 crunched him up something awful.

But he had a couple of piss palace finals and a few other things ahead of him. I've never seen the 1999 Lakeshit final which was just a few months later but it looks a damn tight game with Barnacle.

but the 1997 Austrian Open?! Where'd you get that from? We may have to dust off the 1999 Scania Open klaxon for this oddity. I intend to mention it frequently.

Darts Database :)

Looking at Rod's head to head records, you can really tell he dropped off after 2000. For example, he was 3-0 against Scholten up until 2001. Yet, 0-3 after that.

Amazingly, he won 7 out of 15 games against Taylor in the 90s. And one of Taylors wins was a last set decider (1999 World Grand Prix). They only met once in the 2000s, with Taylor winning. The head to head scoreline between the two thus reads 9-7 to Taylor overall. Probably the best head to head record anyone holds against Taylor.

Priestley was seemingly Rod's bogey player.

Trolling aside, I believe that the PDC had the better top players in the 90s. Taylor, Harrington, and Priestly as a collective were better than the BDO's top 3 players in the 90s.
