Re: Classic matches thread?
Thought he had done the hard work by beating Taylor, even though was playing shit the entire tournament. I suppose the 2008 Worlds was the perfect tournament for John Part, a slugfest where bottle and concentrating at just the right moments was key.thegentle wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 9:35 pmwhereisman wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 9:22 pm

Re: Classic matches thread?
I remember watching Mardle beat Taylor.
Akin to Wright finally beating MVG in a major final.
Couldn't believe he got beat by Sheppard.
He's said himself that he didn't take the whole thing seriously. Which is just insanity.

+1
There would have been no shame had Mardle lost to Part in the final.
But he really should have beaten Shepherd.

It was probably one of the worst World Championship semi-final performances of all time.sennafan24 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 4:52 pm+1

Currently watching Taylor vs MVG in the 2014 matchplay final. Taylor is 7-1 up and MVG is as red and as near to tears as Bully Boy in their world final from last year.

Which Matchplay was it when Taylor did the interview taking the piss out of MvG for crying?Richard Clock wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 9:05 pm Currently watching Taylor vs MVG in the 2014 matchplay final. Looks like the PDC will be uploading a bunch of great matches to their youtube over the virus shutdown. Kimbo v Mvg at the slam was yesterday. Great fun that one.
Boring Brendas number one and (almost) only fan.
Smithys number one and (definitely not) only hater.

It was in that one I watched - 2014. He started crying when they was announcing Taylor as the champion. It was after MVG had beat him 7-0 in the premier league and I believe in another tournament. It was a ‘Taylor is finished’ thing going round. And then it was 11-2 up at one point and MVG was just shocking most of the game.
Unless MVG cried in 2017 when Taylor beat him in the quarters 16-6?
MVG did win it the next two years after that. Making 2014-17 probably his best Matchplay years as he’s really being crap in it mostly.

I think he referenced that final when he beat him in 2017 but 2014 was the one where MVG was reduced to tears.Richard Clock wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 8:34 pmJimmi wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 6:48 pm2017, I believe.whereisman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 4:30 pmWhich Matchplay was it when Taylor did the interview taking the piss out of MvG for crying?Richard Clock wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 9:05 pm Currently watching Taylor vs MVG in the 2014 matchplay final. Watching Shitlock Vs MvG at 2012 Worlds and Nigel Pearson decides to talk about how MvG was the next big thing in 2006 and how he hasn't reached his potential... That aged well!

I was so excited when MVG was getting his groove back. Vivid memories in particular of his Blackpool 9-darter v Beaton... and of Freddy Bloody Flintoff. Great stuff though.whereisman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 6:49 pm Watching Shitlock Vs MvG at 2012 Worlds and Nigel Pearson decides to talk about how MvG was the next big thing in 2006 and how he hasn't reached his potential... Re: Classic matches thread?
It says something that dear Sidney's commentary on MvG Vs Taylor in 2008 was far closer to the mark in terms of predicting what MvG would become than Nigel Pearson's was four years later. Mind you, Pearson was the man that struggled to commentate on bikes going around in a circle where the outcome was pretty much decided from the first corner.Rogg wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 8:18 pmI was so excited when MVG was getting his groove back. Wade V Thornton Grand Prix. X2 9 darters and the game went right to the wire. Some quality finishing in that match as well.
