Those pitches in NZ were fucking pathetic, 1st match would have been a draw too if not for some poor batting from England.

Adelaide pitch was also lifeless, hardly any wickets fell during the day.

3 Tests against Kiwis start next Thursday. First is a Day Nighter at the new ground in Perth. Hopefully that is a contest, as the MCG pitch for Boxing Day is going to be as dead as ever as well.

To continue my rant, Test cricket outside Aus/Eng/India is just about dead. Changes need to be made ASAP. No one wants to watch 5 day grind-fests on flat pitches featuring substandard teams.

My suggestions. 4 day tests with 100 overs a day, get some life in the pitches, and a new ball every 40 overs. Shit batsmen trying to protect their 50 averages can get fucked.

Agreed, 4 dayers in first-class cricket works fine, and could push teams to set better pitches. Here the pitches are very bowler-friendly, with the match done and dusted before day 5 more often than not. Only thing is, it's a risk for countries with less resources, they'd need a big increase in crowds to risk losing out on the 5th day

South Africa up next for England, should be a far more interesting series. The pitches there normally offer a lot to the bowlers, their batting lineup is fragile, and there's plenty of turmoil off the pitch too. Wouldn't bank on us winning though!

Certainly the trend to flatter pitches in Australia in the last 20 years has been about making sure a match lasts 5 days. A 3 Day Ashes Test would be a disaster for the State that hosts it.

But Australia and England are the only countries where Test Cricket is still well attended, in places like India, West Indies and Pakistan (UAE) having 4 day Tests would probably save them money.

I don't really think pitches in England are that bowler friendly most of the time. Good batsmen can make runs and those with bad techniques get found out. That is what Test Cricket should be.

Unfortunately the MCG will be flat as a pancake, and I don't like Pattinson as a replacement for Hazlewood. 3 flat out quicks with only Wade to provide any back up. Almost makes me want Mitch Marsh back.
