Favourite world's first round games

Post by Icardi Breezer » Thu Nov 28, 2019 11:54 pm

What is everybody's favourite game from the first round of any PDC world's?

I fondly remember the MVG/Eidams game from the 15(?) World's...

MVG romping to a 2 set lead, with I believe Eidams not even getting a shot at double.. Then MVG looking baffled as Eidams exploded for 15 minutes and almost beat him. Unbelievable. Think Eidams had a dart for a leg which would have meant he would be throwing for the match

This thread has potential...

Cadby v Cullen from a couple of years back sticks in my mind. Cadby started well but Cullen played really well to come back and win.

Michael Smith vs de Zwaan in 2016 World's, been meaning to give that one a rewatch actually so thanks fro reminding me.

And i've rarely been as giddy during a game as i was watching James Richardson blitz Barney off the stage in 2012 World's inside what felt like about 10 minutes.

And I wouldn't say enjoy cos I was fuming but will never forget Kevin Munch knocking Lewis out first round, he had never shown that game or anything close to it previously and hasn't since either.

Still have a lingering hatred for Munch to this day.

Evans coming back from 2 sets and legs down to mince Whitlock that one time was a good laugh.
Boring Brendas number one and (almost) only fan.

Smithys number one and (definitely not) only hater.

Reyes v Newton from 0.55 here. Cristo got it right by going for bull and still Paul Hinks fucked it up.

I won't litter the page with gifs but I happened to find this one while looking for the other one. Yeah Eidams was in a strong position very late into this. MVG could not keep still for the terror of it.

Not total shit? --- (91.11) Phil Taylor 3-2 Michael van Gerwen (85.99)

Yep. Teenage MvG needs d12 to win 3-1. Stands back. Takes his time. Disaster. Taylor almost lost to everyone he played in that one before MARDLE finally flushed it.

For sure. I became a de Zwaan fan. I think he was 19, a ridiculously composed performance by him. Smith won in sudden death. Here's a leg woof:

These two actually back to back at the 2017 Worlds.

(95.54) Cristo Reyes 3-2 Dimitri Van den Bergh (99.11) -- Both brilliant. Reyes 12/19 on doubles. Dimitri 9 180s and did little wrong.

(94.46) Darren Webster 3-2 Stephen Bunting (91.02) -- Bunter binned 7 match darts. Unreal Webster surge and won the tie-break.
