Re: World Series 2019
UK Open is a good tournament but a total cluster fuck for TV. Not being able to watch every match is a bummer!

Re: World Series 2019
It's not the least meaty tournament, but that's true. Can't really hold a week-long event while the Premier League is ongoing I guess. Maybe the PL could take a week off after elimination night to make room for one.Randall wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 4:22 pmThe open isnt a week long event though.Rogg wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2019 4:19 pmNo issue for me either.
Flipping the Grand Prix and the World Cup has been suggested before. A big TV ranking event would be quite welcome in early June once the Premier League has done its business. The World Cup would bring an arguably welcome light touch to the dense final months of the year. Seems an idea.
TV tho, inntit. Don't the long events (Grand Prix and Grand Slam) fill the black holes that are football's international breaks? Worth bothering to remember that the PDC play by Sky's rules.
Btw the UK Open now falls between Ally Pally and the Matchplay. Reading the comments here I did wonder if people have forgotten.
Not something you can really get your teeth into
Regarding the swapping of events, having the Grand Prix coming up this weekend would please us all I think. If the PDC owned Sky I'm sure they'd arrange stuff very differently. We should probably be thankful that we have all this stuff to watch at all really.

If this is the iconic Red Button woosh, then so be it.
It's still true that witnessing the World Professional Champion getting taken to the cleaners by Gavin Carlin is less fun without the pictures.

I still think scrap the world series and have a couple more euro tours and create a week long major in Holland or Germany

Could move the Grand Prix over there. Citywest is dead most of the week. I wouldn't create a new major though. There's already too many in my opinion.

Choosing calmly not to watch an event is apparently never an option for darts fans. No, it must be DESTROYED.

Did anyone notice the Aus and NZ events are all 2 days this year?

Re: World Series 2019
So that means there will be 2 sessions total? 1 evening it's the last 16 and everything else on the second evening? I don't see why they would do that, can't they sell out a Saturday afternoon?Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 11:56 pm Did anyone notice the Aus and NZ events are all 2 days this year?

Re: World Series 2019
The ticket sales were quite slow for Day 2 in Melbourne last year. The cheapest tickets for the Aus tournaments are about $80, and Day 1 & 3 sold much better. The Thorn wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 9:36 amSo that means there will be 2 sessions total? 1 evening it's the last 16 and everything else on the second evening? I think it's just an easier sell to have 1 session where all the locals play, then 1 with all the finals.
If they kept the same format as last year and put the 2nd session on Saturday Afternoon I think the sales would be even worse, unless they lower the prices significantly.

Yeah, those prices are a bit steep to be fair. I mean I'm not that mad about it, not sure how much I'm going to watch of these at all.Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 10:40 amThe ticket sales were quite slow for Day 2 in Melbourne last year. Re: World Series 2019
For comparison I paid $70 for a night session on Margaret Court Arena this year at the Australian Open.
At those prices they will get the first timers, but won't really encourage people to come every year. They'll probably go back to Sydney and Perth next year anyway.

RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD and James Wade will compete in the PDC World Series of Darts events in Brisbane, Melbourne and Hamilton in August after being confirmed alongside four further qualifiers from Australia and New Zealand.
Five-time World Champion Van Barneveld, a former World Series finalist in both Australia and New Zealand, will be part of the Oceanic treble-header as he continues his final year before retirement by competing in August’s events.
The Dutch legend, 52, will be joined by reigning European Champion Wade - the 2018 World Series of Darts Finals winner and a former Perth Darts Masters finalist - as the final two of eight PDC representatives for the tournaments.
