The Wales team might be worth betting on.

You mean those regulated boards that now have the same size segments, with the larger bull?

Interesting chat with Jelle Klaasen, not just about the World Cup, but about the DRA, Premier League and his form as well. Says he and Wattimena reckon Barney is in the box seat for selection for this--do they know something that we don't?

Have they officially announced that the criteria is the highest 2 players on the OOM?

That was never the case as far as I know. The only thing the rules state is that it's up to the PDC's discretion.Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 9:22 amHave they officially announced that the criteria is the highest 2 players on the OOM?
There was a similar situation with Taylor a couple years ago who didn't get in the team in the end. I've seen rumours he didn't want to play the World Cup anyway so we can't be sure.
So picking Barney wouldn't breach any rules but I'm not sure if there was ever a case when the top 2 didn't get picked, apart from the infamous Wright/Klaasen cases in 2016. Maybe Wattimena and Klaasen will "withdraw" as well?

Klaasen doesn't seem to even consider the thought of him going to the World Cup lol. I wonder if MvG will have any kind of say, since he's actually going to be on the team, could he tell Barney to do one if he thinks he might hinder their chances? I suppose it depends on whether MvG backs himself to win the thing on his own, or if he even cares about it

Pretty sure MVG did have a say when they fucked off Klaasen to include Barney 3 years ago. I think he couldn't care less, not like Wattimena would be much better than Barney.thegentle wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 10:45 am Klaasen doesn't seem to even consider the thought of him going to the World Cup lol. Re: World Cup of Darts 2019
Didn't care that Barney got into the Premier League, sure he's stinking it up, but there weren't any other players who would definitely have done much better, and importantly, there are no ranking points on offer unless you truly earn them by getting to the final. Someone getting dragged to the Grand Slam off the back of their partner doing all the work is a bit naff though really. I'd feel a bit for Watters as well, surely the likes of de Zwaan will overtake him sooner rather than later, he's never going to get a better chance to compete in this

That's right, I thought they changed the rules to put Barney in that time but it was PDC discretion. The Thorn wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 9:42 amThat was never the case as far as I know. Either way it's pretty obvious Barney will be partnering MVG this year too.

This is a tournament really grates on me with the constant fist pumps and high fives. And of course the Barney Grand Slam free entry system, Pairs is a unique in the PDC and should stay a pairs event!

I thought they changed the rule to let the number 1 from each country to pick their partner? Swear I've heard it on commentary before

No mention of that in the rules.

Has Székely qualified for the right ET or is it too late? Zwolle will be 2 weeks earlier than the World Cup. On the second case we will have 2 qualifying events for this with higher chance to "enjoy" Bezzeg's play again.

Re: World Cup of Darts 2019
Cut off is May 12th, just after ET6, before Székely's moment in the sun. Now I have no idea if Hungary have organised a qualifier for this or anything, but if not, you'd still imagine that it would help him given that these places are discretionary

Re: World Cup of Darts 2019
Hungary had qualifiers in the last few years so I'd assume nothing changed. According to the rules Szekely's ET qualification wouldn't count.

I am sure Barney will be picked, with the "defending his title in his last year" excuse.Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 12:51 pmThat's right, I thought they changed the rules to put Barney in that time but it was PDC discretion. The Thorn wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 9:42 amThat was never the case as far as I know. If he continues to get battered in the PL, then the decision will get more criticism but I am sure Bazza won't be worried about that.
It would be ironic if Netherlands get dumped out before the final and Barney doesn't get his grand slam place..
