What does defending money mean?

Post by Titselena Bumsquirt » Sun Jan 13, 2019 1:45 pm

Can someone explain what this means for to a knob head? I've watched darts for years and heard this term banded around loads of times and don't actually know.

The ranking works on a 2 year rolling system.
Players defend money they won 2 years before.
So if you win 100k at The matchplay in 2019, come 2021 you need to win the same again or the money comes off your ranking.
Cross for example has had two years free as he wasn't on the tour before.

However he's shitloads to defend this year including £500,000 Ally Pally cash. Deep and shit come to mind

£400,000, despite being one of the most consistent players on TV in 2017, he's one of the players most reliant on one single event

My bad. Still a shitload to defend and as you say reliant on one event. Unless of course he can mop up four or five majors

So if Cross has a complete shithouse year and does nothing meaningful he'll be jobbing in the BDO in 2 years time.

Ta for the explanations folks.

He was still in the top ten earners for last year despite it being pretty shit for a reigning world champ.
