PDC Tour Prize money increase..

Post by Wolflanternbumbag » Thu Jan 10, 2019 10:29 am

PRIZE MONEY on the PDC circuit will rise to £14 million in 2019 through a series of increases for the sport's biggest tournaments.

PDC prize money will again reach a record level as the sport's expansion continues this year.

The growth of the World Darts Championship prize money to £2.5 million for the 2018/2019 event was followed by confirmation that prize money for the UK Open and World Matchplay will also increase in 2019.

The PDC's other Premier ranking events - the World Grand Prix, European Championship, Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals - will also increase in 2019.

In addition, prize money for the Premier League, World Cup and World Series of Darts Finals will rise this year.

Prize money on the PDC European Tour will increase to £140,000 per event this year for the 13 tournaments held across the continent, and a further eight Players Championship events have been added to the PDC ProTour, meaning that over £2 million will be added to PDC prize funds this year.

The PDC will also continue to fund affiliated tours in the Nordic & Baltic, EADC and Asian regions, and work alongside other global partners and the Junior Darts Corporation.

"This is another huge step forward for players on the PDC circuit," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

"We had already expanded the World Championship to 96 players an record levels of prize money and announced that all 128 Tour Card Holders will compete in the UK Open, and it's fantastic to increase prize money across our other Premier events and the European Tour.

"A PDC Tour Card really now is a Golden Ticket, and unprecedented rewards are now available for successful players.

"We've already seen an increased field at the European Qualifying School and are all set for a hugely competitive UK Qualifying School later this month ahead of an eagerly-anticipated 2019 on the PDC circuit."

Big increase in the World Matchplay total of 200k on the prize fund. Nice increase in the GSOD winner getting 15k more this year. European champion now gets more than the World Grand Prix champion.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the 5k ET event increase..
If it goes to the winner then it will be a bit of an imbalance against the runner up and semi finalists..

Not had a look yet but here's a thing.

Burton DeWitt @bsd987
If I'm reading the rules correctly, ProTour semi-finals are now best-of-13, and ProTour finals are now best-of-15. Last year, that format was introduced just for the Euro Tour.

Burton must be walking with a limp after what the unofficial champions of England did to him at the Etihad last night. I've seen closer games at the World Pro.

It is nice.
4.9 All ProTour main draw matches will be best of 11 legs up to and including the quarter-finals, and then the semi-finals will be best of 13 legs and the final will be best of 15 legs.

Longer course darts will help a few of these floor players who are making the later stages looking to make the step up on the TV stage. I don't think first to 6 really helps anyone in that regard.

Not Ian White like, he'll always be pony on telly.

Winner and runner-up prize money stays the same. £500 more to the semifinalists and £1000 more to quarterfinalists.

That seems a bit weird.. that would give the semi finalists £6500 and the qtr finalists £5k..
Not much of a reward for getting to the semi's

It's solely gone to semi-finalists (up £500 to £6,500) and quarter-finalists (up £1k to £5k). Essentially, you get £2k for winning the last 16, and only £1,500 for winning the quarter-final which is a bit weird

However it's split it's more money available to players and value added to the Tour Cards

No bad thing to have the money spread more evenly. I hope they keep doing that for the Pro Tour. Rewards consistency rather than the occasional Beaton-esque run.
