Can someone get some Scotch tape and wrap it around his head so he stops spouting this shite?

What an absolute coward he is for constantly jumping around the issue.

What will no doubt occupy his thinking in the coming weeks is the PDC dilemma, with recently altered rules meaning BDO players will now no longer be penalised for trying their hand at Q-School.

Previously, players who reached the semi-finals of the World Championships at Lakeside were contractually obliged to stay with the BDO or hand over their winnings, which made Durrant's made up for him.

Now that's no longer the case, Durrant has the choice of a code-switch that has been long discussed.

"I have had meetings recently and discussions to look ahead to what happens if I do go to the PDC," he tells Teesside Live.

"Things are in motion.

"People seem to forget, however, that I don't have a card, and absolutely everybody will be going to Q-School this year. You're going to have players who don't currently have a card there, the top BDO players and a lot of very high quality county players.

"It wouldn't surprise me if more than 500 players turned up, I'm expecting record numbers and the standard will be sky high. Q-School will be harder than Lakeside."

Durrant has shown, though, that he's got the game to handle himself in the PDC.

Of course it will...It will be harder then any Pro tour in theory due to the sheer numbers

500 players are going to be involved maybe more all going for 40 tour cards.

It's going to be brutal & a lottery

It's not quite a lottery though is it?

If a top player enters he will more often than not prevail over the multiple day period. They might have a rough couple of days, but they usually put a decent run together and get through. Duzza would have a 90% chance of getting a card. But he probably won't attend so it's a moot point.

If the new BDO rules regarding Q-School don't encourage that lot to at least try one day of it, they never will.

Tough luck though that it's likely to be a down year for available tour cards...might be as low as 26 in Q School, after 33 last year. With last year's entry numbers that would be an 18/8 split between the two Q Schools.

I remember what you used to tweet at people when they questioned (ridiculed) leading BDO players' chances of getting through Q-School. Even Razma won a card, you said.

Your determination that it's all a massive lottery began when Menzies, Hughes, Ratajski and Smith all failed. Funny that.

That's not to say I disagree with you entirely.

He should do but its a lottery you get shock winners who will not do anything over the 2 year period... and no i cant think of a better system.

Give more tour cards to the Challenge Tour, surely? No.3-6 on the Challenge Tour, Menzies, Harris, Ratajski (though he won a card through the main OoM) and Boulton would all be competitive on the tour.

I did say that I don't disagree with you entirely. It's an inadequate way of finding pro tour players, or at least it's relied on too heavily. The Challenge Tour OoM should be used much more, for one thing, as Thorny says. The players at the top end of that tour are likely to be willing and able to have a serious crack at it, which is more than can be said about random Q-School graduate.

I've always considered Q-School a jumble, whereas you came to the conclusion when, for the first time, elite BDO players failed. Guess that shook up some people. But anyway.

As for Durrant, that he's been writing a terrible musical about Q-School for about 4 years says more about his own anxieties than it says about the system. It's very possible that he could cut through it on Day 1, like Cadby and de Zwaan did last time. He should give himself a break and concentrate on that.

It's an unsettling twist that we should thank the BDO for helping to complete the circle. Surely only a matter of time before they re-cunt and change the rule back.
