Call me daft but how would the PDC benefit in becoming recognised in this way then?Zeyes wrote:I misspoke a bit, darts is recognized as a sport itself, but it's considered ungoverned.
To catch up what I was talking about there, all posts from TSOD, April last year (had to unlink a few URLs to get this posted here):
Zapp Brannigan wrote:https://www.sportengland.org/our-work/n ... recognise/
Darts - No recognised governing body in England
Has this always been the case, thought its been claimed that the BDO and WDF are the recognized governing body of darts?
Sportotal make that claim here http://www.sportotal.co.uk/news/index (Founded in 1973, THE BRITISH DARTS ORGANISATION (BDO) is the only recognised governing body for darts in Britain and through its ranking points is established globally as the world’s leading darts organisation)A few months afterwards the usual suspects from the BDO/EDO camp were intimating that the whole recognition thing is back on the agenda for all the orgs.Zeyes wrote:BDO not listed in July 2013: http://web.archive.org/web/201307051425 ... recognise/Zapp Brannigan wrote:Im not scraping any barrels, Im wondering when it changed.ifm wrote:Scraping some barrels here lol
The original article in 2005 states that the BDO is the governing body for darts in England.

Since 2016 at least the Sport England site says they don't recognize any organization as the governing body.

Recognition process before 2010:
Recognition process since 2010:There are two parts to the recognition process:
Recognition of a sporting activity
This must be agreed by each of the four home country sports councils and UK Sport.
Recognition of the governing body for the sport
There are two stages to this part of the process.
Recognition of a governing body for the sport at a UK or GB level, which will be considered by all the sports councils
Recognition of a governing body for the sport within England, Northern Ireland/Ulster, Scotland or Wales, which will be considered by the relevant sports council for that country.
A governing body cannot be recognised unless the activity it represents is already recognised.
However, it is possible for an activity to be recognised without a recognised governing body.
Conclusion: I don't believe the BDO has ever been officially recognized as the governing body for darts by Sport England, as they apparently never completed the second step of the process at the time.Under a new process introduced in 2010, applications for recognition of a sport and a national governing body for that sport are dealt with together. (...)
The aim of the recognition process is to identify a single lead NGB structure which governs a sport at UK, GB or home country level. Our recognition criteria focus on establishing if a NGB has achieved a position of pre-eminence within its sport and if it has a reasonable level of organisation and governance.

Re: Darts articles in the Media thread
That's the £2 million question. I think the biggest thing is that it might be the cheapest and maybe even quickest way to supplant the BDO as the assumed authority for darts in the UK, especially as it relates to the org's role in the WDF. That could set a snowball effect in motion for the PDC to gain control of darts worldwide (or at least as much as they wish to). It'd save them years of arduous negotiations, at minimum.

Re: Darts articles in the Media thread
Posted an article a few weeks back about this bar in Chicago that was getting lots of media interest, and they are in England as well; but a very different take on the whole bash. 15 quid for 2 people to play for an hour lol. Stupid fucking hipsters. Around here boards are common and free in the pub. If one of these publicans started charging for its use they more than likely would get a punch in the mouth lol.

Re: Darts articles in the Media thread
Ran across this one. Not surprising the gushing from the North Americans , it is a great opportunity no doubt. But I have to say some of them are as deluded as a BDO mushroom. The one very interesting quote is Mr Part. Is he becoming a bitter old fuck? I agree with him on this one but his twitter response to the PDC announcement wasn't all roses either.
https://themaximum.tv/tom-beresfords-as ... t-special/
the quote:
“Apparently the blueprint for how to be a professional in the PDC was inaccurate at best as those who followed it with the most success face standing on the outside looking in. The alternative path in is already 40% complete (those events running concurrently with PDC tour weekends) and in a desperate attempt to try and catch up and win will be forced to travel a further three weekends on top of the already very demanding schedule, both logistically and fiscally. The PDC have historically made rule changes that take effect retroactively, and this is no different. The presumption that the best three North American players will be at the World Championship seems flawed at best.
I am entirely for the PDC to support the CDC in such a fashion, but in addition to those in their system, not at their expense. “

Re: Darts articles in the Media thread
Part is fucking bitter indeed, now that he's shit at darts.
North America got two fucking extra places. Used to be one spot for years (not counting the random Jeff Smith wildcard last year), now they have three. They are probably the biggest winners of the Ally Pally expansion and he still finds something to complain about.
Yes the PDC could have announced the criteria earlier but who the fuck is Part to challenge it? Look at his performance this year, absolutely abysmal. He's nowhere the Ally Pally spots despite it being increased to a top 64 from the tour. Neither are any other North American players. They are simply not good enough and don't belong to the Worlds. Maybe Dawson, he has a very slim chance to qualify from the Development Tour but he's not standing in such a great position there either.

Well it's two extra places you moron, nothing has been taken away from Americans."I am entirely for the PDC to support the CDC in such a fashion, but in addition to those in their system, not at their expense".

And that bullshit just puts the icing on the cake. There is no guarantee in any qualifying method that the best players will be the ones coming through. Fucking sad cunt. The presumption that the best three North American players will be at the World Championship seems flawed at best.

Re: Darts articles in the Media thread
It's all very reminiscent of van Barneveld's whine last year that a player of his stature shouldn't have to slum in European Tour qualifiers. Part seems to think that just because he (and Murschell I guess, since he said "those" with the most success) is doing the Pro Tour, he should automatically be at the front of the line for North American world championship spots, despite not actually playing very well on it.

Re: Darts articles in the Media thread
It's not all bad news for John. Rumour has it that his mural photo will be updated this year, and now take up 2 walls.
I think his fluky run to the UK Open Quarters has deluded him into thinking he can still compete. When in reality outside of a couple of International Qualifiers and the women, he won't be any chance of winning a game.
