Unibet World Grand Prix 2018 (Sept 30-Oct 6)
Well why not. Burton is now doing it race tables.
Meulenkamp and Noppert on the rise.
Burton DeWitt @bsd987
Steve Lennon—who said to me last year in Riesa that a chance to qualify for the Grand Prix in Dublin was a motivation to switching to the PDC—now in a tentative Grand Prix qualification spot.

Chizzy played so well that week, pity he couldn't close it it in the end with a few doubles missed.Rogg wrote: 2013 - Phil Taylor def Dave Chisnall 6-5

Great tournament to watch this one with added pressure and the many twists during matches. Not sure how much the pros like it as it makes for more likely upsets.
I would enjoy a season ticket for this tho in the next few years only around £160.
Favorite match iv seen probably Wade 3 - 2 Thornton Second Round in 2014 when both hit 9 darters, not just that tho the standard and how closely matched it was.

The double in and best of three in the first round makes this unmissable regardless of who's playing.

Not a great fan of DIDO myself but one event a year is perfect, makes it unique. Despite the tournaments' flaws, it's still one of the biggest majors and rightly so.
Should be interesting this year again, the format always makes for a few shock results, especially the first round is brutal.

Aye, the first round is a bit of a lottery.Father Rout wrote:The double in and best of three in the first round makes this unmissable regardless of who's playing.
It really didn't feel like a TV major last year though. Taylor didn't enter, MVG went out in the first round, and the venue looked like it belonged in a past era. It was refreshing that different players than usual made it to the latter stages of a TV event. However, those players were Gurney, Whitlock and Big Hendo!

Apparently the record for the highest ever match average at the World Grand Prix is held by Alan Warriner of all people! In his opening round match of the 2001 tournament, Warriner averaged an absurd 106.45 against Andy Jenkins. He then went on to win the tournament to take home his only major title.

Taylor did a burst of ten legs in one of the part finals that will likely never be bettered.

2003 final. I remember sitting about like a twat when it got to 2-2 in sets thinking woof this be a 13-set classic like their world final. Taylor then went 3-0 3-0 3-0 out of nowhere. He stopped missing. I think he didn't like Part being world champ.Randall wrote:Taylor did a burst of ten legs in one of the part finals that will likely never be bettered.
Took 13 years for somebody to break that and set a new record average in a WGP final. MVG, in the 2016 edition, was sensational all the way. The final with Ando was mental and the semi-final with Chizzy was fantastic too. MVG on fire, Daaave sticking with him as he often does.

He kept going off 160,unplayable and on boards massively less friendly than mvg is playing on.Rogg wrote:2003 final. No idea when the burst of ten legs was, but according to wiki Taylor's record average in a WGP final was set in 2002 and stood for 14 years. Also worth noting that Taylor's record was set in a best of 13 match whereas MVG only just broke it in a best of 9 match.Rogg wrote:2003 final. As for the burst, where's PT13 when you need him... I'm pretty sure it happened while Part was world champ, which would have been the 2003 final.
