Re: OLD darts articles
The fucking solicitor who advised the board not to do the meeting actually confirming the suspicions was priceless, should never have responded to my enquiry.
Getting hold of the Copper Box invoices was a real coup for here and not forgetting Bradders reeling them in.
Were times I couldn't keep up with the phone and email going mad with the shit that was going on

Q School Entries Announced
https://www.pdc.tv/news/q-school-entries-announced
11th January, 2011
THE inaugural PDC ProTour Qualifying School will feature 119 players in Wigan from Thursday-Sunday.
The 2011 PDC ProTour has seen the introduction of a Tour Card system, with 103 players earning a Tour Card by rights following the completion of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.
A total of 128 Tour Cards will be awarded to players wishing to compete full-time on the PDC ProTour this year, with four offered to the Lakeside Championship semi-finalists and the remaining places coming from the four-day Qualifying School in Wigan.
Q School will be played across four days from Thursday January 13-Sunday January 16, with each day hosting an individual knockout event.
The 119 players competing in Q School include 55 existing PDPA members and 63 new players or players who have rejoined the PDPA, including John Ferrell and Lee Palfreyman.
Magnus Caris, Devon Petersen, Preston Ridd, Dietmar Burger and Michael Mansell all competed in the World Championship recently, while Hull youngster Reece Robinson competed in the Rileys Darts Zones UK Open last June.
Many other young players competed in the inaugural PDC Unicorn Under-21 World Championship in the autumn of 2010, including Shaun Griffiths, Chris Aubrey, Michael Bushby, Jon Smith and Adam Smith-Neale.
The field of entrants also includes 2010 Lakeside Championship runner-up Dave Chisnall and previous Grand Slam of Darts qualifiers Brian Woods and John Henderson.
Lakeside Champion Martin Adams and Martin Phillips have declined offers of a Tour Card, with Dean Winstanley and Jan Dekker having until Thursday to confirm whether they will accept their place.
Four players from the original top 96 - Chris Mason, Lionel Sams, David Fatum and Scott Burnett - declined their Tour Card and have been replaced by Par Riihonen, Dave Smith, Stuart Dutton and Scott Rand, who were the next players in the PDC Order of Merit.

Incidentally, he finished around 80th place out of the 112 players who ended up competing - feel free to extrapolate that to today's 400+ fields - only a few spots above Donna Rainsley, one of I think only two woman to ever compete in Q School. (Hold the McDine jokes. The other one was Stefanie Lück the next year.)

Fucken snide bump.Rogg wrote:Croft on BDO Sponsorship, or lack of it, or not [in 2011]:
BDO sponsors past and present cannot be dismissed as ‘few and far between’: Embassy was a massive sponsor until government bans on tobacco sponsorship came into effect in 2003. Since then, Bob Potter and Lakeshite have provided millions of pounds to keep the World Pro in its position as the premier event in World Darts. Without doubt this has kept the BBC very much on board and 2012 marks the 34th consecutive year of BDO darts on the BBC (something which Barry Hearn is extremely envious of).

Yet the BDO board obviously felt the ground moving beneath their feet in 2011, which is why they removed Croft after 38 years at the helm.

Defending Lakeside world darts champion Scott Mitchell wary of BBC coverage axe
https://www.thesun.co.uk/archives/other ... erage-axe/
1st January 2016
SCOTT MITCHELL thinks the BDO would suffer from a BBC blackout.
The BBC are expected to axe its coverage of the BDO world darts championships.
The current deals runs out later this month and the Corporation are under
pressure to cut £35m from its sports budget.
If a new deal is not signed, it would end a terrestrial TV link lasting 38
years.
The defending Lakeside world champion said: “To lose the connection with
the BBC would be very sad. Not just because the last final was watched by
nearly 4m people, a huge figure for a game of darts.
“I know back in day, when there were three channels, there were 14-15m
people watching it on BBC. This day and age, the BBC still hold the trump
card on the viewing figures.
“It would be a huge loss to darts as a lot of people don’t have the
satellite.
“I know we are on once a year now, which doesn’t make us household names.
But we would miss that. We believe a deal is in the water.”
Mitchell, who plays either New Zealander Craig Caldwell or Scotsman Alan
Soutar on Sunday, is confident that should the worse happen, the tournament
can still survive and thrive.
BT Sport, who share coverage with BBC, are reportedly interested in saving
this part of the darts divide.
Scotty Dog added: “The structure of the county system is the base upon
which everything is built. And that is not on TV.
“Our county system is strong and goes out to find the next young guys who
can throw a dart.”
BDO chairman Sue Williams said: “We are speaking with the BBC next week
about a new TV deal when we stage the Lakeside world championships.”

An utter shambles from top to bottom.
'We believe a deal is in the water' - what image actually is that then? Normally if something's in the water it's about to be blown out of it with fire, oh well fair enough then.
'the satellite' - thank you Janice Battersby.

Scott Waites stuns James Wade in Grand Slam final
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_s ... 215124.stm
22nd November 2010
Scott Waites staged an amazing comeback against James Wade to clinch victory in the final of the Grand Slam of Darts.
Yorkshire's Waites found himself 8-0 down against Wade in Wolverhampton but rallied to seal a memorable 16-12 win.
The 33-year-old, who plays on the British Darts Organisation circuit, was runner-up last year but claimed the £100,000 first prize this time round.
"At 8-0, I told myself to concentrate and just play my darts. Suddenly I drew level and then went in front," he said.
"Once that happened I wasn't going to go behind again. To be honest, it still hasn't sunk in and I will be in work in the morning," added the Halifax-based joiner.
Waites' run to the final included wins over former world champion Raymond van Barneveld and Steve Beaton, who ended the reign of title-holder Phil Taylor in the quarter-finals.
His triumph helped to erase the pain of his 16-2 defeat by 15-time world champion Taylor in the 2009 Grand Slam final.
The lucrative event features a field drawn from both the BDO and its rival the Professional Darts Corporation and is organised by PDC chairman Barry Hearn.
Both organisations stage their world championships in the next two months, with the PDC version running from 16 December to 3 January at London's Alexandra Palace, and the BDO's at Frimley Green, Surrey, from 1-9 January.
