new darts day

Post by skweezit » Sat Aug 20, 2011 9:02 pm

I got new darts today in the mail. I had seen that I liked the extra
thickness on the business end of my simon whitlock darts which are slightly
more than a quarter inch in diameter, but the darts are too short and slippery for me.
I have always used knurled hammerheads, which is a soft dart. the grip
lasts only 6 months to a year tops.

anyways, I got unicorn van barneveld phase 2's. I had to go up a gram to 25
but what a grip! I have no idea how long the microgrooves will last, but
right now they feel fantabulous!
and they're a little thicker all the way down the 2 inch barrel.
my first dart thrown was a triple twenty. how cool is that?

You must have around 50% of North America's tungsten reserves at your house by now.

Did you stop after the first dart?

I opened my package of van barnevelds up and took out the darts.
I had also ordered some pentathlon dimpled flights that came in a ruthless bag(?).
I've always used golf flights but the manufacturer went out of business and
dimplex flights are smaller so that bugged me and I couldn't make the switch,
so I'd practice with hard flights and then when league play came, I'd break out
the few remaining golf flights and use them in the match and then put them away
and go back to smoothies. pretty mental as they fly different.
eureka! they were the right size. so I put one flight in.

I had also gambled on flight protectors. The ones around here are pointy
and stick out about a quarter inch. hate 'em and they hurt when I do the
ritualistic pre-throw routine of pressing down to make sure my flights are in.
same sad story of keeping some "good" ones on my match flights and eventually
not even bothering to use them on the practice setup
score # 3! got the good ones. so I nestled that in on the flight.

With one whole dart completed, I was like a kid that can't wait to play, I immediately
went to the board and popped in the triple twenty. I stood grinning from ear to ear.

then went back to construct my second dart-went for bull and missed
then went back to give life to my third dart-went for double 16 & hit double 7
that's when the head shaking began

I do that ritual of the flight pushing too. Am really ocd about it. All at once, with left hand palm, must get 'em all.

I trust my stems. Gor those Unicorn ones with the little hole so you can tighten them.

had my first bounceout today with my new darts.
I'm ok. nothing to worry about.

denis ovens has a little gadget that he pulls out of his pocket
and snaps open and it elongates into an antenna kind of thing with a
magnet at the end and uses it to pick up his bouncers. he was using it
at Flannery's and the Irish Rover down in new york city. I've got a friend
who plays but it hurts him to bend down and thought this would make a nice
present for him. I googled it and found nothing. anyone know what
this thing is called and where I might find one?

Magnetic pick up tool seems to gain the best results in Google images, assuming we are thinking of the same gadget.

lately I've been besieged by few requests, well none actually, but I'm not one to nitpick,
asking "well skweezit, now that you've had your new darts for a week, how do you like them?"
I love 'em. plain out simple.
they're hungry little devils though. They've eaten one shaft and three flights so far and they're no
teetotalers either. they seem to like hard lemonade and especially rum and cokes, which just so happens
to be my favorite drink too! (after skim milk) ................(at seperate times, not as a chaser)
looks like we're going to get along just fine.

I've ordered more stuff. 36 sets of flights and 12 sets of shafts.
I went all out and got the world champion diamond cut black shafts and lemme tell ya', they look good.
I'm going to need a case or a box or something to house these puppies.

their training is proceeding quite well. we spend some time just going through the basics everyday right now to develop a mutual trust.
I'll pick out a fat number and the dart goes and fetches it for me. most of the time.
I haven't named them yet.
